I was thinking this morning that I don't remember any candidate other than Hillary Clinton running their campaign based on their first name. Does anyone know if that was the case in the past? Why do you think they decided to go with that, was it the "woman" thing? I know that "name recognition" can make a big difference, so I'm thinking that "Hillary" was used to promote the "woman" thing and maybe isn't something I would recommend to any female in the future.
So, any others run on their first name in history? I go back to my first election in 1972 and don't remember any. Woman thing?
Don't forget Bush 2 who ran on a middle initial. His team actually came up with a great window sticker that was literally 'W.'
IIRC Lamar Alexander also went with just 'Lamar' in some of his advertising. Mitt Romeny also did some posters/stickers where Mitt was a larger font than Romney.
And not at the presidential level but we had a former Gubernatorial candidate who used 'Inez" in most of her spots. Then again we had two 6 term senators whose campaign slogans were also first names- Fritz and Strom.

Why? Because she wanted to distance herself from that other "Clinton".
