Pence has a stronger resume than Holder--gov. of Indiana, US House member (chair of the influential Republican Studies Group, and now VP). Holder had one very controversial term as AG, and beyond that a bunch of lesser positions in the federal justice bureaucracy.


Holder has baggage. Remember that Gore, Kerry, and Hillary Clinton all lost in part due to the gun control issue. Holder would not be able to flip flop re guns because of past statements and actions.
