Are they going to get their auto jobs back, and are the WCWMs that live there regain their place as the undisputed head of the household, and get the respect they have been losing since the 1960s?

There was an article in the WSJ recently about the diverging political paths of Macomb and Oakland Counties, which are right next to each other. And specifically, Royal Oak in Oakland County and neighboring Stirling Heights in Macomb County. Royal Oak was always very Republican and Stirling Heights very Democratic in the past. However, the rise of Trump has made Royal Oak blue and Stirling Heights red, as affluent suburbia has gone Dem and working class suburbia has gone Repub.

Trump told them what they wanted to hear, mainly raising their quality of life by gutting NAFTA which has devastated middle American factory jobs. Spoke out against globalization which has slowed american wage growth, and cut taxes...

If your a factory worker in a Car plant and have received a 1 or 2% raise over the last 15 years your salary has gone down and your buying power has decreased. This directly affects your quality of life.

Add in local taxes have gone up to make the hole created by federal tax cuts, roads and infrastructure have gone to crap, and people feel like they are being abused.

All it took was a snake oil salesman promising them things would be better when he came to office.

It's interesting that Greenberg was quoted so heavily. He recently released a column explaining how Hillary's inability to focus on the economy and even how she framed her focus on the economy is what killed her with working class voters.

On a side note- one issue no one ever addresses is that all the gains in technology, use of robotics and computing have greatly reduced the numbers of humans used in production lines. And allowed manufacturers to streamline the number of components and parts in vehicles and similar equipment. Even if we move overseas manufacturing home there would still be fewer jobs.
