One thing we know for sure, the 2020 Democrat candidate will have really small rally crowds compared to Trump's rallies.
We "know that for sure," do we? We don't even "know for sure" that Trump will be the GOP candidate in 2020. From the way things are going, that's certainly not a given.

You clearly have a lot more confidence in Mueller than I do....

It's not Mueller who poses the biggest threat to Trump right now, it's the investigation of Michael Cohen. Even Trump knows this to be true. Lots of stuff there Trump does not want to get out, hence his attempt to suppress what was seized.
People who live in Los Angeles are every bit as American as people from Poteau, Oklahoma. One of the most offensive things is the fact that you right-wingers act like only white fundamentalist Christians who live in flyover country are "real Americans."
I'm not saying they aren't. But, when one city alone gave Hillary the popular vote, you see why we don't base our elections off the popular vote.
Democrats have never claimed to be the party of "Christian values" and aren't known for trying to force religious piety on everyone. Republicans need to be held to a higher standard because its them who insist on beating everyone over the head with a Bible.
I did not know that Trump was religious. My fault. Not every Republican is religious. Matter of fact, most of them aren't. We just hate working 10 hour days 5 days a week while the bums and illegals get to come over here and live off our hard earned money, when they don't even work. I think that sounds much more realistic. But yes, Republicans do carry the christian vote. Can't deny that.
Nah, the cult is well indoctrinated. Remember after he signed that obscene spending bill, and many here on C-D were claiming that was it, they were finished with him? Most of them are right back on board already, his lies and betrayals all forgotten. He could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and they wouldn't leave him.
But I believe all the independents who took a chance on him are long gone, never to return. And he can't win without them.
Look Jams, I really feel like I need to point this out, because frankly I just get so tired of watching everyone on this forum use words like "cult" when talking about those they oppose, seemingly without realizing that they are members of a "cult" themselves. At least in the context in which you are using the word. One "cult" just happens to be on the opposing side of the other "cult". It's time to call a spade a spade. I have watched people for years, on either side of the aisle, stick relentlessly with their party's elected officials, no matter what their representatives had done. This is not a new phenomenon and it certainly isn't exclusive to the Republican party. It's time for more honestly and less partisan nonsense. Furthermore, it's actually sort of funny to me that the word "cult" is thrown around so much now. That didn't used to be a thing. At least, not until after the most recent installment of American Horror Story aired. You know, the one titled "Cult" featuring an insane Trump supporter.
Also, on the actual subject of the OP, of course he can't win just with his base. And at this point, who knows if he will even deserve to win. We still have a long way to go before the next presidential election.
PS. I'm still salty about the spending bill. And I do applaud you for actually calling it a "spending bill" and not a budget. So many people keep calling it a budget, and that's not what it was.

One city alone did not give Hillary the popular vote. They simply added to the total of all Americans who cast a ballot that gave her the popular vote.
By your reasoning, a whole lot of sparsely inhabited swaths of flyover country gave Trump the electoral vote. Why should millions of people living in cities have their vote count less than a handful of people living in sparsely inhabited flyover land?
