Why can't democrats go back to being the party they once were in the 70's, the party of the working people instead of the party they now are, the party of the illegal aliens.

Democrats need to fix health care. Not Medicare for all. I am on Medicare because I paid into it until I turned 65. I earned it. You get it at full retirement age, not any younger. It is not free either but it is for people who have worked and earned the credits and usually they are retired.

Single payer for everyone else. Guaranteed health insurance at affordable prices or free. Available to everyone even if we pay a higher sales tax that goes to the federal government. It's necessary for health care to be available to all. If they can fix what we have, that would be fine, but there is work to be done to make the cost fair to everyone and to allow people to choose their own doctors. Maybe model it after the NHS in the UK. Immigrants will have to pay a lump sum to join the system but after that they will have health care available just like everyone else.

Do something about illegal immigrants. No wall, but strict rules and if an illegal is caught, they are deported. Let the DACA people remain. They were brought here as innocent kids but adults who are sneaking in and bypassing our immigration system need to be sent back to where they came from. They can come the right way or not at all. Our immigration system needs to be reformed too so that average individuals can immigrate, not just millionaires or doctors or scientists or someone who marries an American. It's too hard to get into the country legally and there are good people who should get in.

It would be nice if they could end wars and stop terrorism. It would be nice if they could get rid of the lobbyists and that Congress could vote for what the people really want. But--those are dreams. Work on practical things that the people really want and get back toward the center instead of weird far left rants and craziness.

And what's wrong with single payer healthcare? I realize the current system is the bees knees if you make $250k/year or more, but that is literally 1% of the US population. The other 99% of us need a system that works for us (and it ain't the current one)
the republicans did in fact try to work with democrats in 2009 and 2010, but obama and company told them to get bent, since the democrats won the election and as such the democrats were in charge. and the democrats locked the republicans out of ANY negotiation on health care, and other bills. so after two years of that, and then 6 more years of democrat obstruction in the senate, why should republcans work with democrats??

as for single payer health care, the cost of doing that for 320 million people is going to be hugely devastating on the budget. if you think trillion dollar deficits are bad, with single payer they only get worse.

as for calls to increase the federal minimum wage, that too is a bad idea. what works in arizona wil not work in california. minimum wage laws should be done at the state level, not the federal.

Instituting a 10% National sales tax and bumping all income tax brackets by 5% would pay for a single payer healthcare system without busting the budget

It really doesn't make much difference as it is unlikely the will flip both houses. They certainly will pick up seats, but not enough to make a lot of difference. As for what would their agenda be? I am afraid it simply would be the same ole, attack Trump, followed by attack the GOP. Right now, things seem to be going well so what could they really change or attempt to change? I can think of a few issues they could address that might be worthwhile. One being settle the wall issue once and for all and find a way to protect the DACA kids, without including their entire families.

Oh, I see you want us to become a total socialistic country? Not a chance but dreams are fun while they last.

Dems could run on a completely bogus campaign slogan. Take a page from Trump: "Build a wall and make Mexico pay for it!" Right. How about "Universal Healthcare and make the Wealthy pay for it!" It'll go over very well. They don't even have to do it if they don't want to.

In all seriousness though, the one big mistake I can see Democrats making is making 2018 only about Trump. That's not an agenda. It might get you back the House, but they need to make Trump only part of the argument.

And like someone else said, do not let Pelosi be Speaker. The party needs to move on. Don't give Trump an easy one to hit out of the park in 2020. Clinton and Pelosi are very effective punching bags for Trump and the Republicans. Remove those the game entirely.
