Honestly think the democrats if they have all 3, president/senate/house will expand the supreme court to 11 or 13 & destroy the filibuster. There will be a political shakeup in 2020 after Trumps impeachment or riding out his term in limbo after Mueller releases his report. Both sides will be much more polarized and will break a lot of traditions of how the federal government has functioned.
You do not need any of this .... have you heard about accidents?
crash the car and die, be mugged and take a shot, have a mysterious collapse and die.
Altering the number of justices is an act of Congress. We have nine justices due to the Judiciary Act of 1869. Prior to that, we had a varied size Supreme Court. It hasn't changed since then though FDR did try to expand it.
I think traditionally since we have had 9, it will likely stay that way. I wouldn't support expansion or contraction even if it helped a political agenda I supported.
This panic over Kennedy is rightly and wrongly founded at the same time. Kennedy has been the swing "vote" in many SCOTUS decisions. However, he was placed in by Reagan as was initially conservative. Kennedy has been a gift (and curse) for more liberal decisions. The court will remain 5-4 for the time being but it is likely that the confirmed justice will not be the one to swing the decisions. It might be Roberts that fills that role going forward, but it is unlikely that he'll do it as often as Kennedy did.
The sky will be falling if/when Ginsburg or Breyer's seats have to be filled. Especially given that justices are confirmed by majority vote, it means there can be no compromise and a justice could be confirmed.
The bolded would require a Constitutional amendment, I believe. They would never get the states to go along with that. I think you are also dreaming about the rest like it could ever happen.
When FDR proposed his 'court packing' even most fellow Democrats rejected it and rebelled.
That's what I'll be saying when red states stop attracting employers due to their draconian laws. Tech companies will definitely avoid religious theocracy states.

Great. Red States have some too hot job markets where employers are having issues filling great jobs.
Last I saw Nashville Tn had a 2.6% unemployment rate.

Nashville is a heavy Democratic area.
