Beto has visited every single county in Texas, is now revistiing, and holding townhall Q&As throughout the state. Cruz is doing Hillary's cocoon strategy with limited and controlled engagements.
Robert's "townhall" events are heavily controlled and purposely filled with his most open supporters, he's consistently refused to answer difficult questions from opponents and he's going to end up looking like a complete fool when he debates Ted Cruz. Robert is a smooth talker but lacks substance, he's the perfect democrat.

Beto has been pushing for months to have debates with Cruz, and it is Cruz who has been stalling and resisting.
Cruz finally came out with a shorter list of dates and locations, starting later in the campaign, and said take or leave it. Beto took it. It is Cruz who is afraid to debate.
Will Ted Cruz and Beto O’Rourke debate next week? | houstonchronicle.com
Cruz’s campaign dictated a set of rigid terms to O’Rourke, insisting he agree to their plan to hold five debates without any negotiation over the details.
O’Rourke’s campaign said they’ve left messages seeking to hammer out details, and it was Cruz’s campaign that has refused to come to the table to work it all out.
Will debates ever materialize between Beto, Cruz? | WFAA
With a week to go before the first proposed U.S. Senate debate in Texas, Beto O'Rourke's campaign said the Cruz team has finally returned its calls and begun a dialogue on when, where and how the two candidates will meet.

Did you see whose post I was responding to with that comment???
It was irony---
Beto has pulled about even with Cruz
He has done his part three times over in trying to reach out to the voters of Texas and present himself and his values
I think national media because of that video going viral has started to take an interest
Joy Reid ran that clip on her morning show today/Sunday and was very complementary
Saying people who follow politics know about the X-factor and they should keep Beto on their radar...
Totally agree with that
Even if he does not take this seat from Cruz he has developed a national recognition now
He COULD be a VP candidate in 2020
He COULD run for govenor here in TX on the next go round

You know that Cruz is definitely afraid
To debate Beto who ""technically" is really below Cruz's stature means that Cruz sees Beto is becoming more of a threat
So much so that NOT to debate gives Beto MORE credibility and presence...
It will be interesting to see the debates--if they materialize--Cruz is nothing if not a bait-and-switch kind of politician...
Cruz is very intelligent but his habit of lifting his head and looking down his nose at people just comes across as condescending and patronizing to those he is speaking TO--not with...
He also has habit of using inflated vocabulary--he is very intelligent--but he can't turn it off
Beto is very smart as well but he has the Jimmy Steward--Mr. Smith Goes to Washington--aura which allows him to be verbally insightful but also use the "common touch"
Much more of an affinity for people than Cruz and there is no way to mask that in public and really on tv to me
Intersting historical insight---
Kennedy and Nixon did first televised debates which were also broadcast over radio
Nixon on tv came across very negatively--sweating, looked pasty but with dark shadows under his eyes, looked "shifty" lot of people though and terribly uncomfortable
Kennedy on the other hand always was charismatic on tv--very relaxed, energetic, look good -- a little younger than Nixon and had the better hair--very vigorous...
People who WATCHED the debates gave Kennedy a good solid lead over Nixon
But people who only LISTENED on the radio gave Nixon the lead--
No physical appearance to override substance--
Maybe Kennedy's Boston accent make him less comfortable for many people in areas not familiar with it
maybe the fact that people had heard Nixon before from his time as VP found it more familiar
Maybe Nixon who was a very intelligent man was able to present his answers more cogently
Anyway---
TV has been making an impact on people's choices in elections ever since
And I don't think anyone can disagree that Beto comes across visually very strongly and less robotic than Cruz
I am not saying to rank Beto over Cruz because of their media factor is choosing style over substance--
I think Beto's agenda is better in so many ways and he has the integrity to adhere to it
But I don't think anyone can argue that media charisma has lot to do with how successful politicians are in today media saturation...

Counties visited : 254
Town Halls: 259 (real town halls, open to everyone, no vetting, no registration)
Money from PACs; $0
Meanwhile...Cruz claims he did 17 town halls in 2017 but:
"...we shared our annotated version of the chart by email with academic experts and requested appraisals of Cruz’s statement that he’d done 17 "town halls."
Several deemed the claim inaccurate because most of the tallied events, especially meetings limited to business employees, weren’t forums open to all or likely to encourage wide-open questions and answers.
A Duquesne University professor, Mike Dillon, replied: "The term ‘town hall’ implies an event is open to the entire community and that competing ideas will be welcomed and discussed. It seems these town halls are open only to the people from the sections of ‘town’ that support Ted Cruz. These are scripted pseudo-events," Dillon wrote, "not genuine public forums."
Ashley Trim, a Pepperdine University administrator, agreed that an "employee town hall" is far from the original use of the "town hall" term.
"Employees know that their employer has arranged for and endorsed the visit, and that therefore assertive questions are not welcome.

Beto's townhalls have been much more inclusive than anything Cruz has done...
As a side note is there a reason you are referring to Beto as Robert, while not referring to Ted as Rafael?

“"This is not surprising, to see so many people turn out," said Texas Supreme Court justice candidate Kathy Cheng, who had attended the meeting. "My understanding is that [several hundred] people were here today. That's a pretty good turnout for Navasota. And it's not surprising to see voter turnout from all parties. That's what's so great about the campaign; he's got Republicans and Democrats turning out."”
