No, the statement stands. The systems of the various European countries are riddled with waste, inefficiency, corruption, and horror stories in terms of quality of service.

However, the horrors of the US system are worse.

I'd prefer a full-blown market system, because that is most natural, a single-payer system would be second best, because at least it gives people some peace of mind, however realistic or fantastic, but the worst by far is what we have in the US, a hodgepodge, a t'aint - t'aint this, t'aint that - where everybody, sooner or later, pays one way or the other, and many fall through the myriad cracks, the guilty and the innocent.

I would be willing to pay 3% of my gross income towards a single-payer system; in a country with the economy of scale of the US, if run properly, that should be quite sufficient.

Hillary's original "Universal" health care plan, as first lady, was an honest effort. The health care profiteers shot it down, and it never stood a chance. Now that she is running for President, some of her biggest contributers have been from those same health care and health insurance companies. Her proposed plan would be a gift to them, just as the current Medicare Drug Plan was essentially a gift from Bush to the pharmaucutical industries.

The problem doesn't lie solely in the fact that everyone's not "covered" by health insurance. The problem is that both health care costs in this country, and health care "premiums" have risen to such exhorbitant amounts. But health insurers, health providers, and drug companies don't want their huge "profits" messed with.

I've watched several documentaries about universal health care in other countries, it doesn't strike me that the citizens in those countries are unhappy with the care they receive. What's really sad, is we now have Americans actually flying to other countries in order to afford necessary or even life-saving surgeries and procedures, because it's out of reach cost-wise here. That is ridiculous, and shameful.

My wife came to the UK with the exact attitude that is shown on here. She was against a UHC. She has now seen a UHC in action and has told me that if she had become ill in the USA it would have cost her far, far more for far less treatments. She has had Cattaract surgery, Gall bladder removal. Breats screening and many consultations with doctors here. It has only cost her a very small proportion in tax. She now can see how frightening the American Health Service really is.

Can Americans afford Clinton's healthcare plan? (OneNewsNow.com)

The Obama plan would cost $800 BILLION a year to run. So the whole "the rich would pay for it" BS is coming out. The MIDDLE CLASS will have to pay for it.

This is one of many reasons why Obama or Hillary cannot be allowed to be President. They will make this economic slowdown look like 1929 all over again. They are just too stupid.

Not only that Obama (who said before he would not "take the folks guns away") is now saying he wants to do away with Concealed Weapon Permits, to make sure only crackheads and his base of voters have guns to rob/murder the law-abiding citizens.

I can't imagine the health care plans being better than medicare;look at what that cost. Then look at the other government healthcare plan and what financial trouble it is inI don't think eiother is up to a good healthcare plan how satandards. Remembver that in europe the governmant owns most of the hospitals and many that can afford it go to private hospitals.Look at some of the ameriacns married to peole in the UK on other forums. The wards of twelve;upkeep of the hospitals and medical standards are not what is expected in the US. Besides that for many things you never see a doctor but a nurse practicianer;like of like the medical clinics at wal-mart.But it doesn't matter because I doubt anything will happen until they get social security;medicare and medicaid on solid ground and that will take alot of money. Afterall they have been studiing how to fix them for as decade or more.

With a Universal health system, Everyone will have a General Practitioner that they can see whenever they want. If needed then they can go to a hospital of their choice for investigations. Normally the local Hospital is excellant for this and no need to travel far. In the UK we DO NOT have nurse practitioners, you see a Doctor. The Hospitals are owned by the Govt. and some money is made to run it by private health using its facilities and paying for it. We have some of the most modern and well equiped hospitals in the world. Our doctors are trained there and doctors from all over the world train there too. No Health Service in any country is free to start up and costs money, a lot of money, but that is returned with profit. America has the chance now to make a difference. Using the "can't afford it" excuse doesn't hold water when you think of the trillions that America spends on foreign aid. There is a old saying by Henry Ford-- "whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're probably right". This applies so well to the current Health Care Debate in America. Whether Obama, Clinton or McCain.

Where on earth did you get the figure of half your paycheck? There is a notion that by paying a small tax for Universal healthcare is stealing your money. I think your money is being "stolen" in much larger amounts by private health care companies who depend on you NOT making a claim to build their fortunes.

Sorry common sense and reality does not apply. Pay no attention to the current government management of healthcare it's all bush's fault.
For the cause of liberty take these EU wannabees and throw them out and VOTE Ron Paul. No Socialism and communism thanks America is still free and we will keep it that way and get rid of your social welfare programs too.
