I will stay at home for sure before I vote for him. Just because he is a democrat doesn't mean he couldn't do more harm to America. Everything about him so far has been on the negative side... why would I vote for this man just because he is a democrat? I only vote for someone that I think can handle the job and be damn good at it... if I think they will do a bad job then I can't vote for them. He is high risk in my book. Better to be safe than sorry. Rather be a live democrat than a dead one.
Bush had DECADES of experience in his administration, and look what a mess they have made in seven and a half years.

You get to work on government roads payed for by taxes from everybody else. Your food you put on the table is subsidised and inspected by that faceless beaurocracy that conservatives love to bash. Your wealth, such as it is, is protected by police officers who are payed for by... (drumroll)... taxpayers.

Maybe I'm missing something here but how do you come to the conclusion that Saudi Arabia and Iran are more socialist than the United States? Lets take a look at the definition.

Quote:
Socialism refers to the goal of a socio-economic system in which property and the distribution of wealth are subject to control by the community.[1] This control may be either direct—exercised through popular collectives such as workers' councils—or indirect—exercised on behalf of the people by the state
What is the name of the organization, union, or collective in Saudi Arabia and Iran that acts as a control or medium to provide the people with equal economic distribution of wealth?

There are differences between authoritarianism and socialism, but they are not on opposite ends of the political spectrum as you have implied. They are very closely related and it is very easy to go from socialism to authoritarianism. Just look at the USSR and, for a more recent example, Venezuela.
I don't recall making the distinction or associating authoritarianism with socialism, you did, not I. However since you brought it up, I would love to see a list authoritarian states that are socialist societies. I can think of very few that lean that way but again, you may be able to enlighten me.

It's so funny reading these slippery slope arguments about the ills of socialized medicine.

You've got a free market nanny state now with your Neo Con liar president and you don't even know it.

Wake up!

Doesn't mean those things are not a good idea.

The military is called for in the Constitution. The President is the Commander-in-Chief. Fire department, schools and roads are local with the exception of interstates. The national weather service could be privatized if you want.

to hell with the FDA. to hell with anything federal. give the power back to the states and local governments. devolution of federal responsibility to the states is how our constitution is set up. It's called federalism. And go figure the few things the bureaucrats in washington are supposed to be responsible for (our borders and sovereignty) are issues for state governments. DC bureaucrats make me sick. We need term limits. We need a clean sweep. And over half of them should probably be tried for treason for representing special interest and corporations instead of the people that put them in office.

Whether national or local, specified in the Constitution or not, ALL are paid for by taxes and government run and are thus "socialistic".
