Default Why are you Republican or Democrat?

I was raised in a home in which my mother was an avid Democrat. The state that I lived in has always voted Republican. I am neither Republican nor Democrat. I refuse to join a party. I think that a person should vote on how they feel about a particular candidate. I hear so many people who are Democrat and refuse to vote for a Republican and vice versa. I teach high school and I ask my students if they are Republican or Democrat and most of them say they are one or the other. I ask them why and they say that they don't know, their parents are so they are. Is that how it works for you all. I see things in each party that I agree with and disagree with so why choose one party over another?

I call myself a Republican only because they are the only viable party out there to counter the Democrats who consistently put forth the attitude that you are too stupid to do anything for yourself and that government control over everything is paramount. Unfortunately, the Republicans are becoming more and more the Democrat Lite party while the Democrats move even further to the left.

So for now I consider myself a Republican but hold out the hope that another viable national party will soon come along to fill in the void that the Republican Party used to fill. Unfortunately again, a viable third party is still not a reality so this November our only realistic choices for president will be either two marxists or a socialist.

I only wish that Ron Paul was young enough to regroup and give it another go in 2012. Maybe someone else will step up and carry on the Constitutionally limited government mantle...

I'm neither. I'm a member of the Veterans' Party.

Thumbs up Nice post

Neither. My Grandmother taught us to pay attention, give weight to a candidate who shows common sense and listen, because you can't speak and learn at the same time.

Default I am republican

While the party has different view points the republican party has gone thru some changes in the last 20 years.

I hope to save the republican party from becoming socialist and liberals. Bush is not what i would call a republican and most of the polices he supports are not republican values.

Princples of the republican party that should be the core of it's platform everything else doesn't matter.

1. Limited Power of Federal Government.
2. Follow the Constitution (Restore the second amendment rights, first amendment and other eroded rights the federal government has destroyed)
3. Fiscal responsiblity, balanced budgets (No debt)
4. Sound money and value of the dollar backed by gold.
5. Humble foreign policy, no tax dollar funds to any foreign nations.

Republican party must support.
1. Removing the IRS (No fair tax and no flat tax)
2. Remove federal income tax and lower all taxes.
3. Remove government control of healthcare.
4. Remove welfare and move toward charities
5. Remove the control of money from the FED
6. Support America First Trade Polices and remove NAFTA, WTO and the UN.
7. Secure the borders and remove illegal immgrants and punish those who hire illegals.
8. No National ID or Real id.

Republican party social views.

If the steps 1 thru 7 are accomplished these views can be sorted out by the state and local governments not the federal government.

same sex marriage
bible in schools
Drug Laws.

If set out to do these items you will have a country based on freedom, liberty and the true vision of the founding fathers.

If you support these things you are a Ron Paul, Barry Goldwater Republican.
