The gas tax is levied against producers, not consumers.

So, in the face of record gas prices, and corresponding record oil company profits, we're going to give the OIL COMPANIES a TAX BREAK!?!

And then just hope that they'll pass the savings along to the consumer out of the bountiful kindness of their hearts???

HA! How could anyone take McCain and Clinton seriously after this? I used to be happy with any of the 3 candidates, but based on recent policy decisions and directions, a clear frontrunner has emerged.

Well, you tell those people to figure it out. 18.4 cents a gallon times 30 gallons is $5.52. You save $5.52 each fill-up through the summer (length of this 'moratorium') - eight weeks. You've saved $40, if you fill up once a week.

$40 isn't really a fair trade for $9 billion in infrastructure repair, would you say?

By "folks making 50 or less," are you talking about people who earn fifty thousand dollars per annum or less? That would be me

MEMO TO HILLARY AND MCCAIN:

Why not just offer free gas from our oil Strategic Petroleum Reserve and promise a public lynching of oil company leaders? That will get you the most votes.

LOL

And these are the folks who will FIX the Economy?!!

Lets see....18.4 cents - 9 Billion = 300 thousand jobs lost + a later increase to absorb the summer spike X thousands of roads and infrastructure projects abandoned and on hold....(where's my square root).....

The gas tax cut is a horrible idea. I understand that gas is expensive, and that many people are suffering as a result of this, but this will just make the situation worse in the long run.

CNN Money ran an interesting article today about why the US is so vulnerable to this recent run-up in gas prices today.

I look forward to seeing how McCain AND Hillary both back off from this. I wonder how they'll word it. And what new lollipop they'll produce from behind their backs to distract us.

I hope everyone remembers which candidate was saying this was a stupid idea from the git-go...
