To be slavery, it needs to be backed by force. The only force anyone is hearing about in relation to healthcare, is the force government relies on to implement it's will. Socialism is slavery. Read something besides Marx sometime.

Self-interest is human nature. People act in their own self-interest. That included the politicians and government employees who will handle this naive plan. You will be giving more power to self-interested individuals.

Besides, McCain's come out with a tax credit for healthcare. It's the freedom to choose with the country's current socialist lean. What's more to discuss?
OneThousand, you're making it real easy to reciprocate. Rep point coming!

Many people say that they do not want the wicked govt. interfering in their lives. These are the same people who scream at the govt. if they do not react qyuickly enough to save their homes from fires, floods etc. The same people who buy property in areas that have earthquakes, hurricanes etc. using their "free" choice. As soon as it all goes pear shaped they blame the govt. for NOT getting involved. If Obama or Clinton had the balls they would tell the people the truth. Neither of them really care about the health service as they get amazing cover. They are both playing games and its the poor in America that will suffer. The health service is goinbg to implode in the USA, it's just a case of when. This "i'll make my own decision" is great on paper but as i said earlier, when it falls apart then the smug i'm ok jack citizens plead for govt. intervention. Pity!

You are wrong. When I was a troubled teen, I got into lots of fights. I had my arm broke with a bat, my skull fractured with a pipe. Those are the most severe occassions. I never reported it.

When I was older, I had nearly ten toolboxes-- which made up my source of income and life savings-- stolen from my truck. I didn't call the police.

Do this day, I still see nothing wrong with the fed's reaction to Katrina.

You are sadly mistaken.

Laysayfair, I'm beginning to suspect you've read a book or two

Most Americans do not want the Government interfering in our lives. Frankly, we do not want socialized medicine in the United States - as you are use to in the UK.

Frankly, a mandatory UHI scheme in the United States would be a very hard sell to the American people.

Interesting comment. May I ask why? (Without inciting a riot)

To not report attacks is NOT being a good citizen. To allow attackers to get away with it or allow people to steal from you and get away with it is not a answer. To say that a government run health care system takes away freedom of choice is also way off the mark. Choice is a luxury only given to those who can afford it in America. Instead of fighting the govt. the people of America should firstly elrct a govt that they believe in.
Watching the presidential race i think that this will be hard to achieve. Too many self interest involved and too many lies. Obama and Clinton will not solve your health care nightmare. You will strill pay over the top for healthcare. You will still be a country that has a heealth care system run completely for profit and not health priorities. The health care system in the USA is in debt and its geting more and more in debt. This is because of huge profits by the insurance companies and not govt. intervention. The USA was a country that led the world. In health care it is now a poor relation to many many other poorer countries and it will only get worse.

Then, simply sit back and be happy as to where you live.

Let Americans deal with our own situations to our liking.

I'm beggining to suspect that America is incapable of running a UHC let alone start one. Too many people in America who now want it all for themselvers and never cares about their fellow citizens. This is not how America used to be but it is what America is becoming. And no, most Americans do NOT want this health care system that is now failing badly in America. Most Americans want a Health service that is there to treat people and heal people, not see how much profit can be made. Obama and Clinton will never fight the big companies and Americas health will depend on profit not the countries health.
