The Lone Star State passed New York as home to the most big companies in the latest list compiled by Fortune magazine.
Texas now boasts 58 headquarters, three more than New York, the previous No. 1, and California, with 52.
Business experts say it's a matter of simple economics _ Texas attracts companies with its low taxes, affordable land and large labor force.

The reverse Gold Rush from California to Texas has concerned West Coast officials for years. In 2004, consultant Bain & Co. surveyed big companies for a California business group and found that half planned to shift jobs out of state or at least stop expanding in California because of high costs, including taxes. Of that group, 27 percent said they would go to Texas, more than any other state
Sure, with glee. I'm sure McSame gets on his knees every night and thanks the good Lord for white people who can be scared of a wacky preacher and a Muslim name. Hillary may have fallen short with this tactic, but not ol' John Paul McCain.
This site takes poll numbers and paints a map illustrating possible general election outcomes. What is interesting is a state that has traditionally went solid Republican - Texas, is in play if Obama gets the nomination. Could it be that Texas will go blue in 2008?
I doubt it BUT if President Obama follows through on immigration reform and we make all the Mexicans in Texas US citizens and potential voters, Texas will be competitive in 8 years for the Democrats.

That is actually not a bad strategy which the Democrats have been working on in CA for sometime now and it has worked. I would say TX is definitely next. Then when it is all done we can just give these states back to Mexico and do the right thing. Then we won't have to worry about elections anymore in either CA or TX.
Texas may have a problem with McSame. Every morning he spends a half hour looking for his eyeglasses before he realizes that he's wearing them.
When the General comes along and McSame is suddenly under scrutiny as being a Bush 3rd term, we'll see how he holds up. Race is an issue that might make him wet himself.
Race is an issue that should make obama wet himself as well. And, please don't refer to Obama as a General..that's ridiculous to even insinuate him as a military officer. I can't wait to see how Obama campaigns among the military, should be some awkward moments...similar to Dukakis being photographed in a tank back in 1988.

...General [Election]..come on, seriously - you were kidding, right?
Hmm...how's this pitch to the military...."son how many tours are you on? You know the enemy's in the neighboring Country, right? Well that's where you're going so you can come home"....

Hopefully the military can make themselves presentable for Obama. He commands respect and don't you forget either. They haven't seen a presidential candidate with that level of class, dignity, intelligence, and integrity in recent memory, certainly not over the last seven years with that blundering, babbling village idiot Bush.
Obama will be Commander in Chief. Get over it! You can't minimize that black man, sorry.

I guess racists are afraid of Obama. That's what it comes down to. Hard to be a racist when your behavior is not ratified by the Commander in Chief.
Here in Texas we like our guns and religion. We like OUR money in OUR pockets. We have the strongest economy in the country and do not need a dem president and a dem congress to mess things up.
Not so fast, partner. This isn't your fathers Texas.
Mindsets in this state have changed considerably over the past few years. This is partially due to the huge influx of people moving here from east/west coast states.
Another factor is that most Texans now realize how badly they got burned by supporting Bush...and they're not going to make the same mistake again.
I think people around the US would be surprised to find out how blue Texas really is.

Good Lord, thanks for the laugh. Yep, hopefully we can get those boys cleaned up for the Commander in chief! The only thing in the world that I could possibly agree on with you is..Bush is an idiot. However..Obama...dignity? Integrity? I give man, you must be putting everyone on. Good luck on "creating that reality," that was your tag, wasn't it?
