Cruise lines are not operating in FL because they want the vax passports which are banned by DeSantis!

Why is DeSantis over-regulating the cruise industry? Doesn't the capitalist model work best when companies are making the decisions, NOT government?

The cruise lines do not "want" vaccination passports. They are being required to use them by the CDC as part of an approval process before they can start sailing again, which is why there is a lawsuit.

The very idea of a "vaccine passport" is government over regulation.

TAMPA, Fla. - Fallout continues from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ ban on vaccine passports with Norwegian Cruise Lines’ CEO threatening to leave the state if the company can’t do vaccination checks.

Seems like Norwegian wants to do the vaccination checks!

A private company such as Norwegian should be able to make it's own decisions on how to operate but it's not possible in FL due to the DeSantis over-regulation.

The reason cruise lines are trying to require vaccination passports is that the CDC is not allowing them to sail unless their safety protocols meet CDC requirements - one of which seems to be requiring proof of vaccination. If you really believed that companies should be able to make their own decisions on how to operate you’d be cheering DeSantis for banning vaccine passports and for suing the FedGov.

You mean he is going to allow cruises to require vaccines? Because if he doesn't, they will sail from states not named Florida.

My half sister is a travel agent. She said changing departure points is a lot easier than politicians assumed since most have a couple of ports they use only once yearly or for special cruises & it never creates a problem. So some of the lines simply start in another state or even Bermuda, Puerto Rico, or one of the islands since the higher end cruises tend to have mostly fly in passengers.

She also said Norwegian owns two other cruise lines and that if Royal Caribbean follows Norwegian's lead that would be six cruise lines. That would leave only Carnival and Disney. Carnival is apparently the most likely to need the Florida ports.

Another big player no one has mentioned is the insurance companies. If they tell the cruise lines they will/won't insure without certain parameters, the cruise lines will fall in line.

And the final decision might simply come down to butts in the seats- if older passengers only want to cruise on vax required lines that will also move the needle.

Would not surprise me to see Carnival cater to the anti vaxx crowd and the rest don't. This would actually fit several stereotypes neatly.

Florida can be the Carnival only home base and take all the anti vaxxers from threatening to ruin my non Carnival cruise later this year. I like it. We also need a control group to tell us when cruising normally is safe again so they will fulfill that role. Its a win/win!

Agreed. If he's on the ballot, he'll get my vote. Especially if Biden's on the ballot. He says he'll run again, of course....but we all know who will really be the left's ticket.

100%! I am not party affiliated & have voted across party lines for over 30 yrs. I "hobnob" with good people who have masters degrees and good people who barely graduated high school. All are hard working people that would never even think to insult others in such a general way as Heather did in her comment. There's a huge swath of middle line voters who are fed up with the snark coming from the left.....so much so, that voting across party lines is becoming a thing of the past for a lot of us. I'm no fan of the GOP, but I'll take them over the vitriol of the liberal heathers.
