Do I get the sense that Hillary Clinton is mortally wounded and we all are like sharks tasting blood?
Mortally wounded? You under estimate her... and you over estimate the importance of the presidency.
It's an important job, yes. Probably the most attractive job for a person like her... but it's not the only job in town. The trick now is to find the best way to step out of the race with dignity. She can negotiate a plum position for herself if she plays her cards right, and if she can maintain a semblance of control and power. Hillary's intelligent, I have no doubt that she will find a way. I have no doubt that she will find a good place to land. And I have no doubt that this is what she was discussing with Dianne Feinstein today.

One can be smart in many areas and can fail in judgment in one's own life. Let's see how smart she is by choosing to be gracious, even if someone has to force this concept on her.
