J.C. Watts left Congress because he wanted to be a Republican leader without being seen as a token. Colin Powell left government because he was betrayed. Alan Keyes has quit the Republican Party to persue some cockamamy presidential run.

So out of 50 governors, 100 Senators, and 435 members of Congress, there's Condie Rice and Michael Steele. Well, if the GOP is happy with that, far be it for me to argue.

The reality is most people of color are not republican, so obviously the GOP could do some things to improve that bloc. To act like its not an area that needs improvement is foolish...

That's what I was trying to say earlier, but people's kneejerk reaction is to throw out the "victim" stereotype.

The GOP could absolutely do better. There are plenty of people of color who would at least listen to what the GOP had to say IF the party would (a) stop it's racialized and homophobic rhetoric, and (b) tell the bigot faction of the party that the party won't be going in that direction any more.

Believe me, in the election cycle after the presidency, there will be plenty of Black and Brown democrats who will be quite unhappy at the way some Democrats adopted race-baiting strategies. The GOP would be foolish not to change its ways, and try attracting these disenchanted voters.

Will they change their ways? We'll know during the general election campaign. If they trot out Jeremiah Wright again; if they insist on calling Obama a secret Muslim; if they pursue other Willie Horton-type strategies, then the answer will be obvious. And they will have stated their preference loud and clear.

The reality is that, the GOP base won't allow a black person to be elected to a position of power. You can deny it all you want but it's true!!

We tried. You see where that got us?

But then the Democrats stood up to the black people and somehow managed to get their votes.

Beats me. Maybe instead of focusing on the color of someone's skin, we should treat them all as individuals. It's just an idea.

Sorry, it's not "my side" that obsessed with anything. Jack Kemp is the one who said that the GOP's efforts to be more diverse is "pitiful".

Jack's on your side ... sweetie.

I'm not sure the Republicans have many viable non-minority candidates either. Bad Dog Food.
