Israel says it is holding peace talks with Syria - Yahoo! News (broken link)
When will this surrendering stop. Now Israel is talking with hated Syria which supports Hezbollah and instability in Lebanon. Are strongest friend is now talking with a country that sponsors terrorism. Is this insanity of Obama spreading already to other countries. He is not yet elected and other countries are following his LEAD and trying to bring stability to their lives. Will this never end? We must continue the path presented to us by President Bush for to do other wise might change the world as we now know it.

Not trying to rain on your parade but.... This is quite a bit of a difference from what Obama is saying he would do.
Israel and Syria on Wednesday said they were holding indirect peace talks through Turkish mediators — the first official confirmation of contacts between the longtime enemies.

There you go again; inserting actual facts into the discussion. We'll all await the OP's correction and agreement that Obama's position in naive and, worst, quite counterproductive.

Okay, explain how indirect peace talks make it acceptable to you whereas direct peace talks do not.
We need a "cure" for the Obamaitis that is spreading...

Exactly...This is how diplomacy works when two nations have been at odds and don't have diplomatic ties. You start with low-level, working discussions....You don't go give the leader of a country that has thumbed his nose at the international community a big hug and sing kumbaya.

You obviously don't read too many of his post. This is fun and games for a lot of us. When you take the side of your rival it is always fun to see the reactions.

You would have to understand, know, something about international diplomacy first. Indirect peace talks with an intermediary does not give the same status as direct talks. Two heads of state talking is entirely different. I know where you are coming from, this is very political and convoluted but it is what it is and it is common practice among enemy nations. It is kind of like saving face. Does that make sense to you?

No it doesn't make sense. If you call direct peace talks appeasement, then what do you call indirect peace talks? Doesn't that amount to the same thing? Will people actually be fooled by the appearance of having intermediaries doing the talking instead of the principals?
Ronald Reagan denounced the Soviet Union as the "evil empire" yet he managed to have direct talks with the leader of that empire, Gorbachev. Was that appeasement too?
