Portland police officers have asked for an apology after they said organizers of a Barack Obama rally set up Porta-Potties on a memorial honoring fallen officers.

Officer Thomas Brennan, a seven-year veteran with the Portland Police Bureau, said he was happy to help at the rally after being called in on his day off. "On short notice, a lot of people had to cancel trips. But they were glad to do it," Brennan said. "It was very memorable, in more ways than one."

Brennan, who controlled the crowd near the Portland Police Memorial, noticed several Porta Potties set up in the middle of the memorial. Brennan had been at the site five days earlier for an annual memorial service and a flag was still set at half mast on the day of the rally. "There was plenty of room elsewhere so space wasn't an issue," Brennan said. "So someone used some really poor decision making, whoever elected to put them there. I mean, it's somewhat hallowed ground, I guess you could call it."

After several days, Brennan attached a photo he took to a letter and e-mailed it to dozens of media outlets and the Obama campaign.

Brennan said officers haven't heard back from the Obama campaign. He said someone owes an apology to the families of the fallen officers.

...or perhaps, just maybe, some dufus who dropped off the Porta's didn't pay attention and just put them where he felt like putting them?

There's not always some great ugly motive to stuff like this.

Just sayin'

They don't call it "little Beirut" for nothing.

I think that's probably the case in this one.

I'm not saying it was a big conspiracy.

I think we can all agree the placement was bad; accidental or intentional.

But why no apology?

Considering the guy or gal who delivers port potties is probably rushed all over town, is not probably all that educated in protocol, etc I think probably there was a nice level spot and they were just set there. Since I believe in the after life, I am not one for sacred memorials to begin with, I do not really think the dead care.

Or even educated period. God love the porta-pot folks, but these jobs are not the ones most folks get college educations for.

This is such a non-story it's ridiculous. Are people really reaching this far?

Let the portapotty place apologize. BTW, here is the pic of the offending potty. Looks like it was in front of the memorial.

I'm not so sure the families of murdered police officers would agree that it's a "non-story" or "ridiculous". I have family members & friends in police departments all around the country. Many of us do, left and right alike. Please show some respect.

The port-a-john guy doesn't decide where everything goes, event organizers do. According to you guys, they'd be too dumb to figure out where to put everything anyway.

If it was merely an oversight, why no apology?
