I agree with his foreign policy views especially.
We should engage in further diplomacy with Iran, Syria and countries we've labeled as our enemies. Cuba for example, should have its sanctions removed imo.
I agree with his plan that calls for health care for all. We are the only industrialized nation in the world that doesnt offer a comprehensive plan for health that would cover all citizens regardless of their ability to pay. As I've stated in another thread, I would much rather prefer health care was implemented on a local or even state level, but nationalizing HC means that we end the problem, Im all for it. This is coupled with my strong opposition to McCain's idea of giving $5000 a year to each family and they'll find their own care. First of all that's not nearly enough and it would leave millions more without any health insurance.
I also agree with his fiscal policy of "pay-go", used by Clinton and the GOP Congress. This led to a huge surplus and we can do it again.
I find his education plan to be the most all encompassing and most comprehensive. His zero-to-five idea really looks outside the box of K-12 and addresses how they can prepare prior to even entering kindergarten. That could yield substantial benefits to our nation in the future. He also wants to double the funding for after-school programs and college entrance programs like Upward Bound(they helped me with tutoring and getting my applications ready when I was in an inner city high school and their mentoring coupled with my own academic success got me int UCLA)-vital imo. I also dislike how the GOP blames teachers for everything wrong with schools. I find that reprehensible.
As far as the economy, Barack Obama has a technology agenda and he would create a cabinet-level Tech position. That elevates the importance of innovation which would keep us competitive. I also like his history of voting in favor of bills that support farmers and his stand that US manufacturing needs to take advantage of the growing demand for green technology.
I believe in protecting the reproductive rights of a woman and so does he.
I also believe that illegals already here should be given a path to residency and he offes that.
There are other reasons that are issue-based, but on a much more human level, Barack Obama seems like the genuine article when it comes to great leaders. He is a devoted family man who worked his way from nothing to the halls of the most prestigious university in the world and now in the halls of the US Capitol. He's living the American Dream and is an inspiration to the millions of youth who look to him as an example. I think Barack Obama, by his very nomination, sends a message to the world that the US is not what you thought it was. The US is perhaps far more sophisticated than they thought. Once again, the US shows the world what a leader we are. I feel that he really wants to bring greater transparency to government and I want that. I believe he would restore honor to the office of the President. Honor the previous 2 occupants squandered and destroyed through personal failings on the part of Bill Clinton and deliberate actions that undermine our constition on the part of George W Bush. I think Barack Obama is the perfect candidate to lead us for the next eight years and will gladly cast my vote for him in November.
