Ah but they are very similar. The only difference would be that under Socialism some private industry still exists. Karl Marx himself even called Socialism watered down Communism.

By the way, Liberals are generally the "Lefties", the Democratic party as whole is not Liberal. Liberals just make up the largest percentile of Democrats (if that makes sense). I would not go so far to call them the new Communist party, although I'm sure they would get the same appeal as the American Socialist Movement (Nazi party).

OK, that's your right not to agree with the political positions that you find too leftist, for
whatever reasons. But to call all the people who don't completely support laissez-faire
ideologies, and who are not socially conservative, "communists" - which is quite common
among some posters on these boards; sorry if the latter is not your case - I don't think
it's the best way to go about this kind of things. A lot of those who have survived through real bolshevik regimes all around the world could eventually feel insulted by such arguments.
I'm not convincing you to become more European, of course, I just beg for less foolish
historical comparisons.

Yeah, but where's the sensationalism in that? Who's going to get riled up if you don't make "outrageous" and "controversial" claims? You need to hit the right buzzwords, and it helps to put certain words in bold or in red, or both!!!

Sure, if you're also prepared to call the modern, neocon-infested GOP the American Fascist Party.

I just find it funny and sad. It shows how completely closed off Americans are from the political realities of the rest of the world. If you put American politics on a grid, our entire "spectrum" from right to left would occupy one tiny part of a fairly conservative quadrant. The Democratic Party doesn't even come close to being as "liberal" as most European liberal paties and movements.

State owned companies are to communist in nature when the state takes over all of the companies to abolish any competition. EXACTLY what Maxine Waters stated she wanted to do to the oil companies.

1. a form of socialism that abolishes private ownership

Congresswoman threatens to nationalize oil industry

"And guess what this liberal would be all about. This liberal will be about socializing … uh, um. …"
The congresswoman paused to collect her thoughts.
"Would be about, basically, taking over, and the government running all of your companies. …"

Thats pure communism

If the Federal government were to nationalize the oil industry, one might make the case that it was a socialist program, but hardly communist.
Its 100% pure communism, when its being done to remove any and all competition, with the profits to go to the national government.

Sure, why not, I've been feeling a little like a proletarian revolutionary lately. Not really. But it would be cool if I were.
