Barack marrying Michelle for political reasons...now I've heard it all.
No less ridiculous than asking if Hillary married Bill for political reasons. But that's not for here.

Opinions, opinions....I think Michelle is beautiful (she's prettier than I am). Looks aren't everything. Plus I would like to see Laura Bush at 80 and Michelle Obama at 80 and see who looks better .

I do believe that Sen. Obama would get slack from certain White voters and some Black voters if he were married to a White woman however.

As a black woman I can assure you that black women would not have voted for him in record numbers like they did. And I am embarrassed by this. I am embarrassed that my fellow sisters went against a better candidate who is a female like them and could have made a difference as well just for a weaker black male who has a black wife. Many of my friends and relatives vote for himsimply because he had a black wife. They don't know if he would have sold us into slavery tehy didn't even care as long as he had a black wife. I tell ya ignorance is bliss.

I also wanted to add that I am not convinced that obama is really into women at all but that's a whole other thread.

Or better yet did she stay with the loser for political reasons. Personally I would have thrown him out. And I think she would have done much better if she had.

I guess those sisters are unfamiliar with Carol Mosely-Braun's ex.

The issue really has not been presented on a national basis but there are a number of black politicians who had a white spouse. Historically, the second wives of black activists Frederick Douglass and Walter White were white.
Locally, Herman Badillo, Richard Newhouse and the first black mayor of Birmingham all had white wives. I'm not sure it would make a big difference in support.

Good point. I think if it came down to it, only a small percentage of Black voters would penalize Obama for having a White wife; but there would be some.

Do you know how tall Obama is? I am just curious. When I see them together on tv, It looks like they are close together in height. Of course, Michelle probably has high heels on. I would guess that he is of average height--or else Michelle may be a little taller than average. Just a woman's curiosity.

On IMDB she is listed at 5'10" +; I didn't realize she was that tall!
