did barack marry michelle for political reasons? (Clarence Thomas, Congress, Barack Obama)

I wonder what would have happened if barack obama married a white woman. I am not saying that the outcome would have been any different, but it would be interesting to see. does anyone feel that marrying a white woman would have had an impact on his political career? would he be looked at as less of a "black man?"

I think he would have just been looked at as a black man married to a white woman.
