McCain, then a Navy lieutenant commander, was by all accounts what the American prisoners called a "tough resister." He was nicknamed Crip for the severity of the injuries he sustained — a shoulder, both arms and his knee broken, with a bayonet wound near the groin — when his fighter plane was shot down in October 1967. Military rules only allowed POWs to go home in the order of their capture, but some senior officers said his medical condition justified accepting an offer of release from the North Vietnamese. McCain, the son of a prominent admiral, did not want to be part of North Vietnamese propaganda, so he chose to endure years of torture instead.
Absolutely he was probably talking about Kerry, who vilified his fellows soldiers and dunces like Jane Fonda and other "peace activists" who carried the message and the water for the North.
Kerry was proven to be a liar with those statements.
Very thoughtful write up by McCain, from the perspective of a five plus year prisoner:
Americans captured after 1968 had proven to be more susceptible to North Vietnamese pressure, he argued, because they "had been exposed to the divisive forces which had come into focus as a result of the anti-war movement in the United States."
I admire his ability to withstand his treatment during his capture by the North Vietnamese.

McCain is quite indecisive on the issue. At least as far as his dissertation is concerned.
On the one hand, he rails against those who spoke out against the war and on the other hand sympathizes by saying the failure in Vietnam was due to bad American foreign policy?
John Kerry, went there, saw what was really going on, then came home and spoke out against it. I see a lot of honesty and good judgement in that.
What I dont like is blindly following someone off a cliff, which in times of war really shouldnt be the case, as if its treasonous to question our actions, which is bascially what GWB did to us in Iraq, "Either your with us or against us", What a stupid thing to say and an even stupider way to think.

The men on the fronts lines didn't have the full support of the government. Why you ask? Because the dem/lib politicians politicized the war.

.
John Kerry went there to fluff up his political resume (to the degree of having himself filmed pretending to wlak through the jungle), then came home, wet his finger and stuck it into the air to see which way the political wind was blowing, and proceeded to propogate slanderous lies about American soldiers that got many of us killed and all of us branded as homicidal war criminals.
No honesty. Poor judgement. And hypocritical opportunism.

Rep point to you - for your undeniable honesty about the traitorous Kerry.
