John McCain, master of the flip flop on everything, has- and for now- still says he is opposed to drilling for oil in ANWAR because the area is "pristine". Although I suspect McCain will flip flop on that soon as he has everything else, I wonder what his logic is here.
ANWAR is a wasteland. The reason it is "pristine" is because nobody lives there, nobody goes there and 99.999999999% of Americans will never see the place! That is why it is "pristine". As for drilling there, I do not have a problem with it myself. I don't give a hoot if the Caribou get upset about it or not. They can snort and stomp their feet all the want.
But then McCain turns around and says putting an oil derrick off the shore of Florida or Georgia is just fine by him. I am beginning to wonder if McCain has ever been to either state and seen our barrier islands and beaches that millions of us enjoy every year. To us, they are "pristine" and, unlike ANWAR, they are important to the people that live here.
I just cannot get a handle on this guy's way of thinking or his logic. Perhaps he will explain why he thinks an empty cold wasteland in Alaska is more important than the beautiful shores of Georgia and Florida where millions of people live and vacation. I am waiting to hear it!

He's pandering to the oil drug addicts of America.

Interesting how he's suddenly for windfall profit taxes.

YouTube - McCain on Windfall Profits

"I don't like obscene profits being made anywhere"

"I'd be glad to look not just at windfall profits tax, that's not what bothers me..."

LOL.

Putting an oil rig or 10 off the coast of Fl or Ga is fine by me. On a perfect day visability is at best 10 nm. In land Fla and GA you have your share of eye sores, just as every state does. Fla and GA have no issue accepting Fed money for disaster relief. Fed money being money of all 50 states. If oil can be taken off the coasts of Fl and GA then we should for the good of the nation take it. Thats good for all 50 states. Use NAS Mayport as the sight of a new refinery. Its already an eyesore.
They are drilling for gas all around where I live and yet we are not crying complaining or thumbing our noses. We need to become less dependant upon Middleast oil. The sooner the better. Alternative fuels are still a long way off and none as yet are viable.
