Even fellow Republicans fume over McCain's flip/flop on off-shore drilling.

Santa Barbara fumes over McCain drilling plan - Los Angeles Times (broken link)

Any wild chance that McCain can take California are dashed

Well if Santa Barbarans relied on the Los Angeles Times to explain McCain's position then that explains their confusion. McCain would leave it up to the individual states to decide whether to allow off shore drilling. So the rich darlings in Santa Barbara will be able to spend their money to influence any vote on the issue. Importantly McCain's plan would likely include a hefty yearly royalty paid by the oil companies to the states that authorize drilling just as in Alaska. There each citizen gets a check at the end of the year from the state paid by the oil companies. That, in addition to lowering the price of gasoline, could prove to be a big incentive for the citizens of a coastal state to permit drilling. We're only in the early stages of this. So don't get your panties in a bunch just yet.

I hate to burst your balloon but can you ever see big international business ever paying back something to the citizens? McCain might like to do as you write, but Republicans will never hold business accountable to the American people

Santa Barbara would like to keep their pretty views of the ocean... oil rigs mess that up for them doesn't it? The fact of the matter is, McCain is not going to care about California (the state has voted Democrat in the last 4 presidential elections - surprise, surprise). He'd be wasting his time there.

Yes, but McCain made a point of having a "California strategy" that's gone down the drain already.

Did you read the part where people in boats ruined the McCain outdoor party at a high-end hotel on the beach. They yelled profanities & embarrassed the Republicans hosting McCain's visit to Santa Barbara Even in Fresno people rallied outside the auditorium chanting for McCain to leave California.

Reminds me of the time Bush decided to take a train from LA to San Francisco on his 2000 campaign. There were all these tv cameras showing the people's reaction as the train went by [giving Bush the finger & yelling at him

It sounds to me like they embarrassed themselves and didn't even know it.

With gas prices hovering at $5 in Santa Barbara, I don't think those rich yuppies and surfers in California really care about the state of the nation but only their backyard views. All 13 of the oil platforms are owned by a private Texan in a recent year purchase and not by the state or government, they provide jobs for Americans from not just California but all 50 states and are barely untapped, being self-dependant on gas and also environmental comes with a collective effort, not something spoiled, selfish Santa Barbarains would really care about.

I hardly think the goofy town of liberal loon Santa Barbara Calf speaks for the rest of the state.
This town is full of loons who dont want oil drilled because the rep base will get ALL THE CREDIT for it because so many dems would rather screw us over then drill for oil.
Never pay attention to Santa B, they have some major issues just like SF.
Full of goofs and weirdos.
