A Colin Powell endorsement of Obama has been speculated on in the past, and now conservative columnist Robert Novak writes he thinks it is going to happen. He doesn't say when and Novak has been wrong before, but he does write this in today's column:

Quote:
“McCain strategists. . .wince in anticipating headlines generated by Powell’s expected endorsement of Obama.”
“Powell probably will enter Obama’s camp at a time of his own choosing.”
Needless to say, if Obama were to garner the endorsement of Colin Powell it would be a GIANT coup and leave McCain supporters crying in confusion and dismay.

This would be a huge blow to the Repubs.

For some reason I don't see it happening though.

Let's see...

I bet the republicans will come up with a very original answer as to why Powell would be endorsing Obama

Yeah but Powell isn't the only former Bush administration member who is supporting Obama. Scott McClelland has said some very commentary things about Obama while testifying against his former good friend George Bush.

This is like a continuing nightmare for Republicans who are just as anxious as Democrats to see Bush go away [“you’re killing us, Bush”

Since I think of Powell as a failed cabinet member, I am not sure either candidate would benefit from is endorsement.

Are these the same people who sold the Iraq war to the American people? They don't have any credibility left, after the WMD sham, they are all complicit.

Powell's only failure was accepting a cabinet position in the Bush regime in the first place. Powell is considered a major voice in foreign affairs & is highly regarded by Americans. His endorsement of Obama will really hurt McCain who also wants Powell’s endorsement desperately.

Can anyone think of another president who has had so many defections to the other party?

I love how some are already being quickly dismissive of Powell. It's sickening but amusing at the same time...
