"Record gas prices, a climate in crisis. John McCain says solve it now. With a balanced plan -- alternative energy, conservation, suspending the gas tax and more production here at home. He's pushing his own party to face climate change," the announcer says.
"But Barack Obama? For conservation, but he just says no to lower gas taxes. No to nuclear. No to more production. No new solutions. Barack Obama: Just the party line. The Republican National Committee is responsible for the content of this advertising."
This ad is from the RNC. The ad basically states that Obama has no energy plan. That is NOT true!! Obama has a plan. It is very very secertive. But here it is in a nutshell:
1. Just say NO! Obama also has a plan on what NOT to do: NO drilling, no clean coal tech, no nuclear, no expanding refining capacities, no developing clean techs, no coal-to-oil, and tax oil companies and HOPE they don't raise prices on consumers.
2. HOPE someone invents some technology someday and HOPE Americans are left with some CHANGE after years of being hosed by terrorist oil-producing countries.
3. Covered wagons in place of cars and a solar panel on top of every home to power 1 TV for 2 hours of viewing a night! NO electricity needed. Cold showers, no heating or A/C!!
LOL.... Hey have you noticved that Obama's motto "Yes, we Can" also coincide with the Anarchist/Communist open border push in 2006, "Si, Se Puede", which demanded amnesty for 20 million illegals and open borders??
Yeah, the whole "Change" mantra is not working as much anymore, thanks to Obama's flip on Iraq. Code Pink and MoveOn.org are pretty pissed about this.
Now, Obama has an energy plan. It's to do nothing and institute covered wagons. That seems to be Obama's solution.
There are about 15%-20% of swing voters that can be swayed. Obama has about 35%-40% of his votes locked in because these people will never waiver from him, but there are people who will really look at all this crap he is doing and re-evaluate this candidate.
I must say as an independent that McCain seems to have Obama beat on the energy front. McCain's plan has short term, medium range and long term components, whereas the Obama camp seems to be banking on denial and strict conservation in the short term and hope for innovation in the long term. Having worked many years in a high tech industry I am confident that the innovation will come but we need to hedge our bets with opening up drilling, clean coal, and nuclear in the medium range. Obama seems to be dismissing increased domestic oil production, coal and nuclear because they can't be brought on line immediately and putting all his eggs in the conservation and innovation basket.

I would like to some drilling as a component of Obama's energy plan. On the other hand, I see the risk of an Iran Conflict blowing up much more under McCain, in which case none of this matters and gas goes through the roof.
