My arguements are not puny. Saying Mexico is an economic powerhouse is ridiculous. Any country that is such a "international economic powerhouse" wouldn't have so many people leaving it in such dire poverty, now would they?
The great part about this forum is you can go back and find quotes. Find the quote in which "Mexico is an economic powerhouse" is stated.

If you weren't blinded by hatred and actually read an entire statement as opposed to bits and pieces, you would see what is actually being said. Mexico is the 3rd largest economic business partner to the US......2 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT statements. My guess is that you have either a) lost a job to a minority/illegal alien or b) work with them and feel "alienated" by the fact that you don't speak Spanish (of course I could be wrong....it's been know to happen).

My suggestion is to just quietly slip out of this thread and find another one in which you and your cronies can complain about the suggestion that Spanish is going to be the language to speak in the future (by the way, they have been saying this since I was in HS so it's not like Obama made this up). Either that or have a local 2nd grader read what you write before hitting submit reply. It may actually make your statements less idiotic.

What is even more amusing is we have corrected ocexpo multiple times in these threads with real data and guy just can't shake himself to see the truth.

Very sad, very misguided. I think he thinks he is in the immigration forum where he would get patted on the back for his BS.

Nope, in this forum you need to back up your statements if you want any credibility.

I agree. Here in South Florida those words appear often in the "help wanted"s. It's my opinion that this is discriminatory.

You are correct that Obama stated that immigrant should learn English ... actually he said the do learn English.

But unfortunately that is not always true. Many of the illegals here do not learn English and this is one reason so many jobs require that we speak Spanish. That is where the problem comes in in this entire thinking.

The first part of what I said wasn't an opinion, it was a fact based on the poll at the time I posted ... at that time 65% according to the poll felt Barack was either wrong or partially wrong in what he said.

The only opinion I expressed was that I enjoy when Barack makes an insane (IMO) comment. What makes many of his observations insane is that they so conflict with views he has expressed in another time frame. Call it what you will ... some say he changes his mind, some say he flip flops, some say it depends who he's speaking in front of, and he says he does none of the above. So we can all decide for ourselves as we sift through the rhetoric.

To answer the last part of your question, I never said Americans don't need to learn foreign languages. My belief is that we should educate ourselves in every way possible including language. But we should not be required to learn another language in order to communicate with immigrants who refuse to learn ours.

English happens to be the closest thing we have to a universal language, but that is not to say that everyone should learn English "to work with us". Speaking several languages is extremely beneficial for everyone.

When you state that it is a great center for international business, that kind of suggests that it is a world contender (or an economic powerhouse).

Mexico has edged ahead of Brazil in terms of opportunities for investment and development, according to the International Business Report (IBR), produced by Grant Thornton International. The emerging markets index, produced using a weighted calculation of key indicators*, shows China, India and Russia still occupying the top three places followed by Mexico in fourth and Brazil in fifth.

Mexico's appearance in fourth place reflects its substantial international trade (combined exports and imports are second only to China) and its relatively high standard of living. Out of the top five emerging markets, Mexico's GDP per head comes out ahead of China, India and Brazil and is a close second to Russia.

"The Mexican economy has had unprecedented stability for the last seven to eight years," he says. "Inflation and the peso have been stable. The country has 12 free trade agreements with 43 countries and exports have surged. Mexico also benefits from well qualified labour, together with powerful manufacturing and assembly industries. Its proximity to the US, too, is an important feature."

Alright, they are back on their feet!!!!

So can we shut our southern border for good since they are so prosperous? I would be fine with that.

I love to see people spinning backwards and doing contortions in this forum.

Well, you just "claimed" they are more prosperous than countries like China, etc.

So cant we just not accept any more immigrants from there?

According to you, they are one of the most prosperous countries in the nation (yet they retain 3rd world status). So since they are so prosperous, lets lock em' out. They dont need us anymore.

No I did not. You "claim" things, I prove to you that your "claims" are not true. I "showed" you they are number four in emerging markets. Behind China, India and Russia.

Actually you are on to something. As our economy continues to suck, less illegal immigrants have been coming over reecently. so there is your silver lining.

They shouldn't have come over in the first place. But, I guess once they are here, we can just send them over to your house because you seem to like to help lawbreakers. Just hide your good silverware and jewelry or they will rob you blind.
