For years, conservative, anti-Castro Cubans, mainly in South Florida, have made the Hispanic vote a GOP bastion in Florida. But waves of Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, Colombians, Venezuelans and others are turning Florida's Hispanic cohort into more of a swing vote, experts say.

I disagree with the link based on living here and knowing whats going on . Orlando is mostly Puerto Ricans it can easily go Dem but not S.Florida and thats a lot of votes .
Even Colombians I know here are Reps . Company I work for is all Hispanic yes lots Cubans but plenty of other groups.
That link is dead wrong.

South Florida will go rep . Yes other Hispanics here how many registered voters among them?
When every Mayor is Rep , city councils or vast majority that speaks volumes . Show me 10 South Florida politicians I will show you 8/9 Reps and the Dems are incredibly conservative

South Florida is far from changing

however S.Florida wont carry the state you have Mid and N.florida

Build a fence against Puerto Ricans? They're Americans so I really dont get your point.

Other demographic groups mentioned in the post about FL who are registered as Democrats are obviously legal immigrants or people who were born here. But of course they'll be outsiders to you, even though every single one of us (except native Americans) are here due to immigration.

Are you serious?

If they're able to vote, they're LEGAL citizens.

Off topic, but in response to hal512's dumb idea: As far as illegal immigration in Florida goes, what would a fence do? You advocate putting up a wall along the entire coastline of Florida so that no Cubans or Puerto Ricans can "get in" once they've crossed the 90+ miles of ocean? Oh yeah, I'm sure the residents of Florida would love for their beaches to be walled-in. Great idea. I'm not a proponent of illegal immigration, but your idea is just stupid.

(This is all not to mention that Puerto Ricans are citizens anyway.)

Husband: "Honey, where would you like to vacation this year?"

Wife: "Well, there's The Great Wall of Miami Beach, or The Great Wall of Key West Beach..."

Husband: "How about The Great Wall of Ft. Lauderdale Beach? Their cement is so much prettier than the walls of the other beaches."

Alot of the Latino outreach done by President Bush in 2004, was setback by the heated immigration debate. Republicans decided to shore up base support for the short term, while at the expense of losing Latino Voters in the foreseeable future.

And many of us are here due to illegal immigration. I.e., white Texan settlers in 1820-1830.
