YouTube - The Difference On Iraq Is Clear: McCain Has The Answers

My personal favorite John McCain line:

Couric:Why do you believe Iraq is the central front in the war on terror?
McCain: Well one reason is because that's what Osama Bin Laden said that it was.

Huh??? This guy sounds like a buffoon, and is embarrassing as an indirect spokesperson for this country's IQ.

Besides that, I love when people try to act like their ignorance is the fault of the person who is trying to educate them or or when people agree with someone but act like it was their idea and the other person doesn't agree (i.e. McCain who agrees we should start moving more troops into Afghanistan.)

Couric and her repeated attempts at the same 'framed' question.

I think Obama should reply as follows:

"Katie, why don't you ask me what I would have done instead of the surge and why I think it would be better to change strategy? That way you'll see that your question about 30,000 troops is not relevant, since it is not part of my position you claim to want to get to know better."

I probably won't vote for the guy in the General Election as Ron Paul is the only man of his word and man of his vote this election year, but [Obama] does evoke a lot more national security sense/strategy and confidence than Mr McSenile, IMHO. And at least I'd know who I was voting for as opposed to McCain who is open about his ignorance ala supposedly surrounding himself with more qualified people. I think I've seen enough of that with Bush, but I digress...

Couric, what with her recent interview edits, and not this one... well, she's just a tool now. CBS recently posted the transcript which concurred with the transcript on huffingtonpost (suppoedly verbatim, but alas HP so the 'font' must be tainted, lol) but not the actual aired segment (surprise!!!), whereby she stated "that people were 'scratching their heads"in [Obama's] opposition to the surge'. I wonder where this consensus of people stay in her straw man argument world... perhaps... never never land! Regardless as to the legitimacy (or lack thereof) at CBS, I'm so tired of hearing about the surge. There shouldn't be a surge. We shouldn't be in that country. Now that we are, and our military is working in a military capacity, there has been repeated failures for the Iraqi Gov't to live up to our (and their) benchmarks. Enough is enough for me...

An acquaintance of mine had a comment on another site that I'd like to share and I think he summed it up rather nicely. I have paraphrased some parts to protect the innocent and for clarity.

"[Obama] is pretty consistent in answering the question, actually:
  • admits that there's less violence since the surge
  • says that the reduction in violence has multiple causes
  • says that just adding troops will always cause reductions in violence in the short term, but that long term success requires a more strategic vision
  • says the war is costing too much money
  • says we should pursue means of achieving peace in Iraq that doesn't involve sending more soldiers and money and instead focuses our military effort on finishing the job in Afghanistan.

The reason so many conservatives think he's not answering the questions is because they can't understand strategic analysis that can't be stated in four words or less. After being stripped of its IQ for the past 8 years, the Republican brain just isn't sophisticated enough to grasp what Obama is saying. Unless you say "durrr....THE SURGE WORKED!" or "durr....THE SURGE DIDN'T WORK," Republican voters think you're dodging the question. Sean Hannity and Michael Savage have convinced their listeners that this is the only thing to say about the surge.

I'm waiting for Rush Limbaugh to publish his next book, entitled "The Surge Worked!" It will be one page long, and written on that one page will be one sentence in big bold letters: "The surge worked" The cover will feature a big photo of Rush smoking a cigar. His fans will hail it as a brilliant and insightful contribution to our understanding of the Iraq War."

Great observations by your friend, absolutely true. That Limbaugh book is exactly right, too.

Humorous, sad, and annoyingly true; all at the same time. Thanks for your comment.
