McCain aide rips Obama a new one
Ben Smith's Blog: McCain attacks on troop visit - Politico.com
Quote:
In the latest in a series of sharp attacks on issues around patriotism and national security, the McCain campaign puts out a statement from a supporter, retired Lt. Colonel Joe Repya:
"The most solemn duty of a commander in chief is to fulfill his responsibility to the men and women who serve this country in uniform. Barack Obama had scheduled a visit with wounded American troops who have served with honor and distinction in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but he broke that commitment, instead flitting from one European capital to the next. Several explanations were offered, none was convincing and each was at odds with the statements of American military leaders in Germany and Washington. For a young man so apt at playing president, Barack Obama badly misjudged the important demands of the office he seeks. Visits with world leaders and speeches to cheering Europeans shouldn't be a substitute for comforting injured American heroes.

Patriotism = The LAST refuge of a scoundrel. McCain can't win on any issues, so McCain's minions attack the patriotism of others. Sad. All these negative ads and attacks will drive McCain further down in the polls.
The GOP machine still doesn't get it that we need to hear HOW McCain is going to solve the issues. More tax cuts for the wealthy (like the ones he OPPOSED when they were passed) will NOT solve a thing, only put us deeper in the hole. Tax cuts for the same old wealthy crowd, the 1% of the citizens that already control 34% of the nation's wealth, are NOT a workable solution to ANY issue.

This was already explained by Obama when the Pentagon refused him access to the wounded troops at Ramstein in Germany because they felt it was a political campaign stop simply because one of his aides who is ex-military has endorsed him.
Who is playing politics now? By the way Obama visited Walter Reed 3 weeks ago and met with injured troops but he didn't bring the media with him. The McCain camp is getting desperate but if I were trailing in the polls I would be too!
GOP playbook = when all else fails attack the opponent's patriotism!

Isn't this right after Mccain PRAISED Obama's plan of pulling out in 16 months? Why does he need his staffers to do the talking for him anyways. He needs to get his dogs on a leash. Look at what Gramm has done for him......

He couldn't go alone? He HAD to have somebody with him? For what? To record the visit? Does he need somebody to wipe his A** for him as well?
Quote:
The Pentagon said on Friday that it did not prevent an Obama visit.
“Nobody denied Senator Obama the opportunity to visit our wounded being cared for at Landstuhl. Obviously, as a sitting senator, he has an interest in that and can certainly visit in an official capacity,” said Bryan Whitman, a spokesman for the Pentagon, who added that there are “restrictions on what you can do as a candidate for political office, that stems from trying to maintain political neutrality and not have the military involved in politics.”
“The senator’s staff was informed of the limits on what the military can do with respect to a political campaign and how we could support a senator’s visit to Landstuhl and, quite frankly, I expected them to have the visit,” Whitman said.

One of the President's jobs is to be Commander in Chief, that's not the entire Presidency. McCain needs to understand all the parts of being President before touting his bad luck hero status.

Sanrene the Pentagon apparently had some issues with him being at Ramstien which is amazing because his trip too Iraq & Afghanistan was not blocked even though he had his aides and the media with him so go ask them.
Oh and you might want to ask McCain the same question about wiping his own butt, somehow I think he needs more help with that act than Obama.

So instead of ditch the media for an hour it was better to skip it?
