As I said in the nearly identical thread:
Personally, I prefer that leaders be flexible and be willing to adjust their positions to reflect the will of the people. I think a candidate who is willing to CHANGE their position as merited is exhibiting their SUPERIOR leadership skills. And BTW, I DON'T support offshore drilling. Have a nice day.

What do you think of this? A good start?
from the initial link:
"The Republicans and the oil companies have been really beating the drums on drilling," Obama said in the Post interview. "And so we don't want gridlock. We want to get something done."
Obama, through his Senate office, issued a written statement welcoming a proposal sent to Senate leaders Friday by 10 senators -- five from each party -- that would lift drilling bans in the eastern Gulf of Mexico within 50 miles of Florida's beaches and in the South Atlantic off Virginia, the Carolinas and Georgia, but only if a state agrees to the oil and gas development along its coast. The states would share in revenues from oil and gas development.Drilling bans along the Pacific coast and the Northeast would remain in place under this compromise.
The compromise "would repeal tax breaks for oil companies so that we can invest billions in fuel-efficient cars, help our automakers re-tool, and make a genuine commitment to renewable sources of energy like wind power, solar power, and the next generation of clean, affordable biofuels," Obama noted.

That is so awesome. Amazing the difference having an articulate and literate leader is going to make for our future.

Neither do I. And I believe you've stated this very eloquently.

Actually that is a good idea. If I had my way self service gas would be outlawed as it is in New Jersey and Oregon and the attendant would be required to check your tires and inflate them to the proper pressure everytime you filled up. This alone would cut oil consumption quite a bit.

Ummm do you really trust gas station attendants to inflate your tires? What if you need low inflation for example in an older explorer with tire problems? Maybe just deflating the tires all the way and installing a light rail system would help....

I promise that by tomorrow, Obama supporters will be for offshore drilling, and they will swear that they have always supported offshore drilling.

What about the gas you'd be wasting waiting in line for the 5 minutes per car it will take to fill up and have all the tires checked?
I suppose you could shut off your car and restart it each time you pull one car closer to the pump. But what would the effect be on the environment, putting all those failed starters in the landfill?

Would kind of suck to have to go some where the light rail track isn't. Will all streets then be replaced by train tracks as well? Who will throw the track switches when you want to merge?
