That WAS sincere. He was speaking the truth. America isn't what it once was, or what it could be. Have you looked at the state of the country lately? Have you looked at what we've done to other countries and people around the world? Even within THIS country? Get a clue, people. Whatever we once were, the United States is NOT the good guy anymore. BUT that can change, which is what Obama is talking about.

I can't wait for the day where one isn't demonized for stating the obvious about the current state of the US. Has it really come to the belief that if you do not blindly cheer every single aspect of the US then you are a traitor, because that is what some of you sound as if you believe.
The US is not a perfect country, and not everyone has the same experiences here. I'm sure if you talked to my neighbors, whose son was shot to death in the park by gangs 1/2 have a block from where I currently live, they'd have a different take on what it means to 'live the american dream', are they traitors too?

Pretty right except the hippie part, that's just an outdated stereotype, work on a new one.
I must be living in a different America. I love this country and my family is doing great. Where do the rest of you live that you so hate America? My business which my wife and I own is surpassing our forecasted budget. I am turning work down because I can't hire and train crews fast enough. My family has cut back with spending as the economy has slowed and we didn't take our yearly family vacation and we don't go out to dinner as often with the gas prices. We have had hardships in our life, four years ago we thought we would have to declare bankruptcy as I was laid off and my wife had to give up her career to care for our son who almost died, and his medical bills ate through our savings. We never took a handout as I struggled to start my own company and four years later we are thriving. We save our money so that when hardships occur we can deal with them accordingly. That is called responsibility and it is everyone's personal responsibility to do this and not depend on the government for a free handout. My wife grew-up in the Middle East and has been on every continent and seen how it is for other countries. She thanks God everyday that she was born an American and has the opportunities provided to her that few women in other areas are allowed. Our children will grow up in the most innovative achieving country in the world. America is now and will forever be the superpower of the free world. Regardless of how hard socialists like Obama try to destroy her. We have strength and a drive that other countries do not. Unfortunately that means that there will always be those that are envious and try to knock us down. America has been hated by countries long before Bush and will be hated long after, that is our plight for freedom, courage, capitalism and success. Most successful people will tell you it is lonely at the top, America is no exception. We tell our children daily how luckily they are to be Americans, and that they need to work hard to keep her the amazing country that she started as and still remains today.
I believe every American should be forced to live a in non-democratic society for at least two years; it is then that you will truly appreciate what is afforded you being a resident of America.
