He's despised by fellow Vets, especially fellow POWs, not only for cooperating with the enemy, but also for blocking every effort to make sure all American POWs were returned after the war.
Interestingly enough, the other veteran who obstructed truth on the matter was John Kerry, the fake candidate and Skull and Bones member who ran against Bush in 2004 and stepped aside in spite of massive and obvious electoral fraud in Ohio.McCain: Worse than you think
We've had a few other threads about this topic, and I'll restate that his fellow vets overwhelmingly admire McCain.
Of all the issues in this campaign, this is the single issue with the highest likelihood of backlash. Nobody over 45 years old would remember the war in a way that would reflect negatively upon what McCain went through. Those younger than 45 may end up learning a bit more about the war, and his experiences, as the election discussions go on.
No matter though, of all the election issues, this will get the least amount of traction.
Here is a statistical analysis concerning vets and their support for McCain, from a neutral source:
In the new survey, 61% of military veterans have a favorable opinion of McCain while 46% say the same about Obama. Thirty-seven percent (37%) have an unfavorable opinion of McCain while 51% offer an unfavorable opinion of Obama.
Twenty-four percent (24%) of veterans have a Very Favorable opinion of the GOP candidate while 17% hold a Very Unfavorable view. The numbers for his Democratic opponet are 27% Very Favorable and 36% Very Unfavorable.

Unless you can step into his shoes and spend the years he did in a POW camp you have no right to speak ill of him or his service to his country!
go on the vietman vets against mccain webpage and say that to them
Statistics indicate the vast majority of vets disagree with these folks, and support McCain over Obama.
