when sen kennedy called them "neanderthals", i believe that he was just stating the obvious about their judicial opinions (miguel estrada & janice brown). the republicans are supposed to be the party that supposedly pays no attention to the persons' race, but sure did continually milk this story and the racial aspect to portray the democrats as particularly insensitive to blacks and hispanics.

Thank you for the history lesson. We (I would like to think) are all aware of how the Republican party came about and the role of 'Dixiecrats' in the south in opposing them. We are also aware of how, in the past 50 years, things have changed. The Republican party AND the Democratic party are not the same things they were 50 or 100 years ago, so to attribute the values either parties held in the past would be an error as those values do not currently represent the party.
