This is what Palin had to say about Wooten before he and her sister split up:
In 2000 Letter, Palin Called Ex-Brother-in-Law ‘Fine Role Model’ (http://www.pubrecord.org/nationworld/332.html?task=view - broken link)
The tasering was a horrible thing to have done. What's almost as horrible is that no one in the family raised any objection to it at the time it happened but only did so when it served their own best interests.

Wooton sounds like a jerk and he sounds as if he fit right into this dysfunctional family . "God makes them and they find each other". She thought he was a fine role model until the divorce and then anything that ever happened and didnt happen was dredged up or invented and used against him. This family sounds like "Tobacco Road" and "God's Little Acre" material.

In any event, voluntary or not, using the taser on a child certainly violated department policy, and was a shocking lack of judgement on Wooten's part.

Aren't there departmental regulations in place to bring charges and conduct a hearing on them?
Was it good judgement on Palin's part to attempt to circumvent them?

I wonder if anyone in that family tried to protect that child at the time that it happened. It really doesn't seem that they did.

Yes, and the trooper was brought up on charges and suspended in March of 2006.
Apparently that wasn't enough.
"Wooten was reprimanded by the Alaska Bureau of Investigation for his actions in March 2006 and suspended for 10 working days.
But Palin, her husband Todd and the governor's aide, Frank Bailey, made a combined 14 contacts with Monegan and various members of the state patrol in an attempt to get Wooten fired. The calls started from the time Palin first became governor in early 2007, with most of the contacts made by Todd Palin.
Gov. Palin fired Monegan in July. "
