Aside from the usual lovefest that go with political campaigns, the clear message from McCain is his embrace of the religious Right [Gov Palin\ creationists\ anti-human rights\ anti-environment\ anti-intellectual-"elitist press"].

How can McCain face the American people? The very people\ radical evangelicals hated McCain & he hated them. Now he is part of the "family" of cultist Christians. The Bible-Belt has a horrible grip on the GOP.

Anyone else think that McCain betrayed his true followers?

I hate myself for every having considered McCain. The choice of Palin shows that McCain really will be a continuation of the last 8 years. No thanks.

Even my hardcore far right wing republican bf is voting Obama. And I know it will pain him! McCain is the GOPs worst enemy!

I disagree. McCain was one of the more reasonable Republicans on some issues [pro-environment] & had many Libertarian followers. He despised the evangelicals & said so in 2000. Dobson & company hate McCain but now support him, as well. The Palin selection was total pandering to religious Right.

Its quite breathtaking considering his background and where he stood on a lot of things just a year ago.

I really wanted McCain to win in 2000, when he still had a semblance of a unique identity and he still sort of stood for something. But eight years after Rove and the GOP establishment decided to go with the draft-dodging chickenhawks, he stands for nothing.

Not to mention he was hardly shown on camera tonight, and for the brief time we saw him, the reason was apparent. This man at his age is not fit to be president, and neither is his running mate whose speech was engineered so as to steer as far from the issues as possible. I don't think they trust her to talk about them.
