James,
Only if you're saying that the makeup of the Olympic athlete population is truly representative of the makeup of America (or any other country). Frankly, I don't think it is. Plus, there's the issue of folks with more than one nationality choosing (for a variety of reasons) to compete for a country. Sorry, I don't buy it.

You are probably correct, but I still am thrilled when I see the diversity of our Olympic team as oppossed to the lack of diversity of most other nations' teams. It seems to me to be a symbol of our nation and its willingness to accept everyone. It also symbolizes to me the words on the Statue of Liberty. (Of course, I am aware of the serious immigration concerns of the moment, and I have them too. The Texas valley scares me to death.)
America is diverse because were made up of everyone else. There are a lot of blonde haired blue eyed people on the German olympic team because they're German... Has nothing to do with how racist or accepting a country is.

I did not mean to imply that German's were racist. I simply wanted to state how proud it makes me to see our diversity. And we have, historically, with some exceptions, been very accepting of others.

Um, the reason we have black folks in America is because we enslaved them and brought them here. So should we be shouting hurray because our diversity was forced in this case? Does that make us better than a mostly white nation that DIDN'T import slaves from Africa?
Also, if the Olympic team proudly reflects our values and diversity, then why aren't there more Native Americans on it? Oh, right, because we shoved them onto reservations and they live in breath-taking poverty without many of the opportunities the rest of us have. Our neighbor to the north, Canada, has been fostering greater sensitivity and legislation to help their indigenous peoples. We have not and would rather forget them, it seems.
Sorry, James, but there are too many holes here. I love to watch our athletes compete and I always tear up when they play the Star-Spangled Banner when they win gold but using the team as some sort of sociology and diversity triumph is, well, foolish.

I truly did not mean to use it as science. I know there are holes, but it makes me so proud of America when I see it. And I remain proud of our diversity even if other nations are as diverse.
Seems like the RNC reflects a party comprised of [sic] people who aren't aware that this country is a DIVERSE place. Despite being on stage and having national attention this week, the Republicans failed to dispel the notion that they are a party that is a haven for racially insensitve people. This continues to be very pathetic aspect of their existence.
In a diverse U.S., a mostly white RNC - Washington Post - MSNBC.com (broken link)
This is pure inflamatory nonsense, and conjecture. On what do you base this outrageous assumption?
You are simply throwing out postulations for the purpose, I suspect, of getting attention for yourself.
You're assertion here is nothing less than absolutely disgusting.
Race has nothing to do with the Republicans dislike for Obama's policies. Ideolgogy has everything to do with it.
The man is a socialist, and he is a threat to our freedom. He, in less than a month, is attempting to nationalize banks, socialize health care, eliminate freedom of speech vis-a-vis silencing conservative talk radio by means of licensing regulations. This is only the begining.
Only the Republicans are digging in and throwing up their hands. The Democrat Party are all too willing to go along (they are and have been socialists for years).
I think you, and the rest the the liberals like you, had better wake up and smell the coffee.
Anyone who says Obama is a socialist immediately loses all credibility because you have no idea what you're talking about. Even socialists say Obama isn't a socialist. Actually look up what socialists believe before you go spouting your conservative agenda.
