If yall think you can tough it out here then by all means come on up but I guarantee you that your $3269 "windfall" won't make it too far with the cost of living in Alaska. That is if you even make it through your first year.

Plus it might be a great idea to educate yourselves about the Permanent Fund Dividend before you make such ignorant remarks.

Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell announced today that every eligible man, woman and child will receive $2,069, thanks to dividend payments from the state's oil royalty investment program distributed annually. On top of that, the checks will include another $1,200 from the state treasury to help offset soaring fuel prices.

Looks like a form of welfare to me.Easy money w/o working. No wonder they have such large families up there, each baby is a dollar $ign.

Do you live in Alaska? Do you know how expensive it is? Give you $3k and then take $5k back means you STILL lose out... I would never live in Alaska... big mosquitoes, too cold, nobody lives there, too dark or too sunny, everything costs more EVEN gasoline... its no wonder the government has to pay people to live there... by your logic, we should pay an extra $5k in taxes to get $3k in windfall profits? No thanks...

The fund is valued at almost $36 billion, with total returns at a minus-3.6 percent in the fiscal year ending June 30. The poor global economy is blamed for the reduction of the fund's value, according to acting Revenue Commissioner Jerry Burnett.

Hmm...

It's called the Permanent Fund Dividend so those who are really curious about go to their website and research it. It's not socialist or some kind of conspiracy and collusion with big oil. It's roots were established decades ago by forward thinking individuals to distribute a percentage portion of royalty payments the state receives to the population. I lived in Ak for over twenty-one years and the highest I ever saw was $1900 and the lowest was around $300. For some it's play money for trips to Hawaii or other toys, but for us and the majority it merely helped mitigate the higher cost of living. Now for those that are envious and think that it's a ripoff then keep pushing for no more production of oil in Ak. Less barrels out of the ground, less royalty revenue, ergo less dividend payout.

Oh, okay!

So a handout is only a handout if the group doesn't whine loudly enough about how there's a very good reason they need it.

This is a relief to know. I'm going to contact every special interests group I can find and let them know that the Republicant's will suddenly stop insultingly calling every program designed to help them a "handout" from a "lazy, do-nothing bunch," as long as it's proven that their life is soooooooo much harder than the rest of the country's.

Huzzah. It's a happy day for government check recipients everywhere!

Now why don't you play a conservative Republican!
(Low tax rate, small government, responsible spending, strong military and tough laws for criminals.)

Did you or anyone in your family mail back to the federal government their last tax rebate?
