At the very least, he took an unnecessary risk to try to tell a joke like that now that it's been picked up by the media and the McCain campaign. Especially with the Hillary voters that are starting to go to McCain/Palen for character reasons and are looking for signs that Obama might be telling a sexist joke or have those opinions. It will come off to some as condescending when the implication is that he's calling Palin a pig and McCain an old fish.

If you must know, I grew up in Chicago.

No he can't. Because it appears that he is calling her a pig. Just in case it has to be spelled out for you. Just like 7th graders would do. Very unpresidential.

AND you're forgetting the REASON she said that joke. Because the delegates from Michigan were all dressed in hockey jerseys. (and to kill time for the teleprompter to catch up).. You realize that, right?
So her joke was in CONTEXT of the CROWD.

Obama's was clearly a shot back to her that rang flat.

Fine, don't go by me. It's being discussed plenty of places. It's also Campaign 101 that the top of the ticket doesnt mess with the bottom of the ticket. UNpresidential.

Enjoying him making strategic errors isn't going to get him elected even if it gives everyone a "gotcha" laugh for the day. In the long run people especially women are really disliking him and the MEDIA. imo.

How anybody could take this as a slur against Palin is beyond me, Obama is obviously referring to the Repug party...spin spin spin away repugs.

Quote:
"We've been talking about change when we were up in the polls and when we were down in the polls," Obama told a rally here as surveys suggested John McCain and Sarah Palin have overhauled his lead for the November 4 election.
"The other side, suddenly, they're saying 'we're for change too.' Now think about it, these are the same folks that have been in charge for the last eight years," the Illinois senator said to a crowd of 2,400 people.
"You can put lipstick on a pig. It's still a pig. You can wrap up an old fish in a piece of paper and call it change. It's still going to stink after eight years. We've had enough," he exclaimed to a standing ovation.
"Boy, we've really screwed things up, but it could get worse. That's their argument. What John McCain's offering is the same old tired slogans that (President) George Bush offered."

AFP: Obama: McCain-Palin change mantra is 'lipstick on a pig'

He could have said 'I love apple pie' and you still would have found a reason to attack him.

I'm sure Obama is upset that he lost your vote. Especially since this is the only reason you aren't going to support him...

Wonder what the reaction would be if McCain said, "isn't that the pot calling the kettle black"

If McCain had said anything like that, he would be made out to be the biggest racist ever. This campaign has reaffirmed something I already knew, women are still second class citizens in this country.

Lord, I'm reading these post and I can't believe how ignorant people are. McCain can say almost the exact same thing when talking about Hillary, but Obama can't because Mrs. Pittbull would get offended. Why don't you all just give up pretending? You're hypocrites, just admit it.

Kind of speaks for itself, no?
Whoops!
