University of Chicago Law School

By most accounts, Obama's time at the law school was a huge success. He arrived in 1992, fresh out of Harvard Law School, to juggle teaching courses in constitutional law and race theory. Within a few years, he became a rock-star professor with hordes of devoted students, wrote a popular book and launched a political career as an Illinois state senator.

Just a clarification: since he wasn't tenured 'professor' is with a lower case 'p'. He was a law lecturer and not a full professor, hence the lower case 'p'.

Yes, the socratic method that turns teaching into a conversation to develop intellect and intimate knowledge of a subject. A very different approach than flashcards, which leads to memorization of facts and not much else.

You're mistaken. First, tenured isn't the same as full professor. Second, it is quite common for instructors with a terminal degree, who teach at the professional degree-level, to be referred to as Professor, though certainly his contract wouldn't have labeled him as such.

From my experience, not always but oftentimes the best Professors were the young, energetic, and fresh minds.
