The Republicans DO represent their interests, they just will not take us up on the offer. Handouts in the long run cripple big businesses chances of having to actually compte to get ahead. We offer a hand-up to a hand-out. Whenever Lehman, Bear Stearns, GM, Ford, Fannie Mae, Freedie Mac (no NOT a nice old black lady and an Irish guy) put hands UP, we give them a hand OUT!

Who truly pays the corporate taxes? The consumers do. So raising them on corporations just raises them on ourselves.
Who profits when a corporation makes a profit? The stockholders. People like us, with 401k's and mutual funds. EVERYONE can share in the profit, just buy a share of stock or mutual fund.
The whole corporate greed mentality is a farce. We have the 2nd highest corporate tax rate in the world and people wonder why jobs are shipping overseas.

You make some valid points, and I am staunchly against corporate bailouts/subsidies.

The only reason that so much tax is paid by the rich is that for example.... let's just say a 5% tax rise for the rich is 5% of a hell of a lot of money. 5% for the poor paid American isn't a big contribution to the pot but a huge hole in their money at the end of the month. The rich can afford the higher amount that they all jointly contribute and still not worry about how to feed the kids.

This is the best and most accurate statement in this thread. Of course, Conservatives wouldn't know this. In this case, Obama's race is worse than what the Republican party stands for, so these people perpetuate the very bad Republican policies by supporting them instead of a brilliant black man who represents a much brighter future.

When it comes to race, poor and working class whites have more in common with the party that is a haven for racists: the Conservative party. McCain is relyinging heavily on this because he has nothing else.

Jobs are being shipped abroad because you can get slave labour in the east... even more profits for the huge corporations and the advantage of no unions or civil rights. Greed in other words.

One of Obama's biggest problems is that so many of his supporters, even in public, have resorted to some form of the line, 'Vote for Obama or you're a racist.' I'm not saying that you're saying this, but it is along those lines. Do these people not realize they couldn't be doing anything worse to lessen the chances of Obama becoming president. There are fewer things that galvanize working class whites than being accused of being racists without merit, and whenever anybody says that, that is in essence what is going on.

It's the condescending and arrogant attitude of many Democrats that think the poor and working class white voters owe them their vote, that is galvanizing voters to the other side election after election.

And your post would be another example of why democrats do not have the base they should have with poor and working class whites. It is the automatic assumption that they must be racists. Hard though this may be for you to believe, but not only are they not all racist (or even a majority) but they don't care to be labeled racist by people who clearly feel morally superior to them.

I also would like to add, that your post is also a glimpse into the near future. If obama wins it will because he is brilliant, but if he loses, it will be because of all those nasty white racists. Hasn't your mother ever told you that you can't have your cake and eat it to?

Unfortunately the Republicans have brought this on themselves. They have a huge Reputation for being racist and elitist. A thoroughly deserved reputation that they must get rid of.
