Medicare is "socialized medicine" and people absolutely love it. It is far cheaper to run medicare because there does not need to be a wasteful profit paid to someone in the middle. Remember, we only need doctors to keep us healthy, not insurance company execs making mega buck bonuses off of a profit on our health or a loss to their mega buck bonuses if they cover what they should. And the admin costs have increased so much since HMOs were introduced so the insurers have very clearly shown that they do NOT save us money. In fact, since they got more and more involved we have only seen costs spiral out of control.

so I take it you have never been here. it's not retirees moving here, it's all kinds of people. actually, VA has some of the highest paying jobs in the US, and VA is a red state.

So when they sell their homes for mega bucks in many of the blue states where people leave, their money goes much further in the new red state home. So that shows the strength of the economies of the blue state, not the opposite.

Absolutely true. Self-proclaimed fiscal conservatives like teatime attack entitlement programs as being liberal and worse, socialistic....unless of course these programs benefit them directly. Then they are all for it. Sucking the government tit is bad unless you are the one doing the sucking. Hypocrites.

That's why I can't stand the Republican Party and most so called 'conservatives' (and I'm using that term lightly here). I gotta give the Dems some credit, at least they're usually honest about what kind of **** they intend to do once they're in power.

But so called 'conservatives'? Forget about it, they'll go ape **** crazy as soon as you try and do away with a government program they're personally benefiting from, like for example; frakking Medicare and Social Security. Bunch of damn hypocrites, at the very least don't call yourself a fiscal conservative, other then being damn dishonest and hypocritical, you're giving REAL fiscal conservatives a bad name.

"Conservatives" use government to achieve individual wealth. The activities of politics, the compromises, the give and take, the negotiations, democracy, majority rule with minority rights, etc., aren't what they are interested in. Conservatives are inherently selfish and expect to try to make money however best they can.

Liberalism is a mental disorder. We vaccinate against many other diseases, maybe we should start vaccinating against liberalism. It is funny how its the Liberal states like California and the northeast are where people are running from. Too bad they bring the very politics with them to their new state that helped ruin the one they came from! Look at a map where Liberals are in control and you will also be looking at a map where it is the most expensive to live in- its no accident!

Socialized medicine is the reason that only 2 percent of those currently in medical school are going to be general practitioners because of the paltry reimbursement. When I lived in Germany, the health care system was Socialized. When I called up for an appointment related to a hernia I was told that it would be a 4 month wait to be seen. When I said "Did I mention I was going to be paying cash" I was told I could be seen that very afternoon! Socialized medicine is a system that benefits the rich who are the only ones to get preferencial treatment!

Exactly, wealthier people will always be able to be seen promptly and I see that is totally fair. If you're poor, then you wait 4 months, BUT AT LEAST YOU WILL EVENTUALLY HAVE YOUR NON-URGENT PROBLEM WORKED OUT. If it was urgent and life-threatening I doubt you'd wait 4 months. My sister lived in England and loved the healthcare system as compared to here, where she couldn't bring her son to the emergency room when he hurt himself because, on top of the hundreds of dollars a month they pay for "coverage", there is a $1,000 (YES, ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS) deductible for any time at a hospital. So no emergency room visit and we hoped for the best, her family, who work, did not have the money to pay the deductible. They are financially very responsible and hard-working, but you cant get blood from a stone..

We have to - the republicans have made their perception of morality the standard by which the rest of us should live. Not taking the bait.

Give me a viable third party candidate and I'll check 'em out.

nobody believes a third party is viable, that is why you feel you have to. it's only a matter of time. libertarianism is going to become more and more popular. imagine total freedom, and you have libertarianism. I am not a big bob barr supporter, because I believe him to be a bit of a LINO. I liked wayne allen root, but now he's barr's running mate.
