Winning In Iraq Would Be "Easy." The End Is "Very Much In Sight." McCain Said That Another Year Will Prove "Stay the Course" Is Working. McCain Said That Iraq Was "On The Right Track" As The Country Moved Closer To Civil War.
In April 2008, the DNC released an ad to hold McCain accountable on Iraq. The ad features Senator McCain telling a town hall audience that despite the long war having cost our country $500 billion and 4,000 lives, staying in Iraq for 100 years "would be fine with me."
McCain's 100 year statement was in reference to the *fact* that we have had military bases in many countries for decades. If we had a small military base in Iraq for 100 years, with their consent, it would be "fine with me." He was not implying we'll be at war or using this many soldiers/money over there for 100 years.
And using a wiki site as a "factual" resource is no different than asking my 4 year old nephew who the best superhero is.
John McCain may be trying to sell himself as a "maverick" and a "straight talker" who will tell the truth no matter the consequences, but independent, non-partisan watchdog groups aren't buying it. But, since he wrapped up his party's nomination, John McCain has offered more of the same false attacks and smears. To date, independent, nonpartisan fact checkers have published more than 50 fact checks debunking John McCain's lies and distortions.
To hold John McCain accountable to his own standard, the Democratic National Committee will count and chronicle the lies here on the McCainPedia's "Count the Lies" page.
