Washington Times - An electoral college 'doomsday'?

Now this would be interesting to say the least.

"On Nov. 5, the presidential election winds up in a electoral-college tie, 269-269, the Democrat-controlled House picks Sen. Barack Obama as president, but the Senate, with former Democrat Joe Lieberman voting with Republicans, deadlocks at 50-50, so Vice President Dick Cheney steps in to break the tie to make Republican Sarah Palin his successor."

The first 269 269 is plausable.

Some of the other scenarios get well into very very the remote possibility category.

That would be neat, because then Omaha could win it for Obama by putting him up one more.

I just read this story today and laughed my butt off. I could hear Democrats all over the US screaming especially if Joe Lieberman gets back at them for what they pulled in Connecticut with him, by throwing the election to a Dick Cheney tiebreaker. In fact, if Cheney casts the tiebreaking vote, I'd like to see him do a happy dance right there on the Senate floor.

Then you know, those of us clinging to our guns and religion will go out in the street and shoot off a few rounds in celebration just for the biased media.

I've heard about this scenario but I wonder if it would actually play out that way. Would Cheney really be doing Palin or the Repubs a favor by appointing her to VP? The VP still has very limited power, it would almost be worse for her to be tied to an opposing administrations policies. They would be better off putting someone like Joe Lieberman. He would still be a thorn in the side of the Dems without having to tie up a Repub in a powerless position.

The Electoral College would have the first shot at breaking the tie. All it would take is one delegate to shift their vote.

What they don't mention is that Cheney can pick anyone as Veep including himself.

I guess "doomsday" is the right word for this thread.

Not gonna happen.

The further the economy tanks means we are reminded of the total imcompetence and untrustworthyness of the Republican Party, the worse it bodes for John McCain.

Yes, and there have been faithless electors in the past. So it's not unlikely.
