McCain- VP choice, uses POW status for political gain too much.

Palin- has not said anything of value, lack of knowledge on many issues, sheltered from media.

Obama- black and being mistaken as a Muslim

Biden- sticks foot in mouth too much

Now that is an excellent point I didn't even think about. That long drawn out battle fatigued a lot of people almost to the point of losing interest, myself particularly.

Great question:

Obama: failure to passionately react to attacks by McCain camp - the base wasn't happy
Biden: Genuinely not sure of this - I haven't seen one yet - I'll revisit after the debate. Literally cannot think of a stumbling block for him. OK maybe his gaffe potential but everyone has that.
McCain: perhaps "fundamentals of economy are sound" as that was criticized by the base and probably lost independents (for me it was picking Palin though)
Palin: Charlie Gibson interview made her look like a little girl playing dress up in her mother's clothes - also didn't impress the base, also probably lost independents

I would probably say all the mud slinging between the two parties is a major mistake, thought this election would be different; but then I ask myself , Is this what keeps some of each party involved - that is the negative comments thrown back and forth? The VP pick for the GOP is another item coming to mind, look at all the publicity since she was offered the position. With the Democrats, probably the Pastor that Obama was afilitated with surely didn't help him...I also feel Clinton would have been a better choice than his current VP choice as alot of American's I imagine feel...

Obama - his Muslim name. Call me what you will, but it bothers a lot of people

McCain - his age and perceived association with Bush.

Obama's inability to admit the surge worked and his judgement was wrong.
Biden - His long years in the Senate.
McCain's stance on immigration has not endeared him to the "base".
Palin's newness.

McCain - his 180 degree departure from McCain 2000 to McCain 2008
Obama - Beating Hillary
Biden - Might be too much of a 'common guy' when it comes to speaking
Palin - Don't know enough about her
