And we necro this wonderful tidbit of news posted September 28, 2008 at a time the economy was suffering an unemployment rate of 6.2% (http://www.miseryindex.us/URbymonth.asp - broken link) under evil, evil Booooooooooooosh.

Thank God Obama and the democrats rescued us from all that misery!

I see gsoboi is attempting a rewrite of history. Let's set the record straight.

Democrats were not in office it was the republicans that took over both houses of congress in 1994 retaining them until 2006. When republicans took over the unemployment rate was 5.6% and over the next 12 years the unemployment rate dropped to as low as 3.9% the end of 1999 and beginning of 2000 (http://www.miseryindex.us/URbymonth.asp - broken link). Funny thing is it was during this time of 3.9% unemployment democrats had a great deal of fun re-labeling the republican "Contract With America" to the "Contract On America". How many here wish we would have another Contract on America where unemployment would drop to 3.9%?

The assessment of blame by people polled will not change the outcome of the November elections with many Democrats losing.

Obama gets the blame ( rightly or wrongly) and Obama is a Democrat.

Always the case in mid term elections if people are upset with the economy.
Why would this election be different ?

Here's an update you will not like;

CNN Poll: GOP's midterm advantage is growing - CNN.com

Quote:
With November's midterm elections less than two months away, a new national poll indicates that the Republicans' advantage over the Democrats in the battle for Congress is on the rise.
The public may not like the GOP, but they have come to determine that the GOP is much better than the dems.

As far as the pendulum swung to the left in November it will swing to the right.

No, actually it is Clinton's fault and he admitted it. Was I the only person listening. The banks had their arms twisted to give loans to people who were not qualified to have them and the government was supposed to back them. Not a good idea. Also anyone stupid enough to get a loan without a set interest rate deserves whatever they get. Most of the loans I see in default around here are the transplants with the McMansions. Regular people have regular loans and are doing fine. Greed is the thing pushing and causing this crisis. I don't need to be paying taxes to pay for your stupidity.

Pay attention to the date of this article by Robert Stowe England, published in the National Review Dec 27, 1993.

Notice the date? Who was President? (For liberals with short memories it was Bill Clinton). Who controlled BOTH houses of congress? (For liberals with short memories it was Democrats). That's sort of important for those who want to blame Bush.

This is where the whole housing mess started.

Assault on the mortgage lenders: in the name of racial justice

Quote:
QUIETLY, behind the scenes, the Clinton Administration is preparing for the biggest regulatory crackdown of recent years. Attorney General Janet Reno is linking up with banking regulators and with HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros to end the supposed epidemic of discrimination against minorities in making home loans. The implications for society at large are ominous.

Here, as in affirmative-action efforts in hiring, college admissions, and the drawing of voting districts, the Washington establishment is obsessed with "disparate impact," which it equates with racism. In the mortgage-lending area, there is ample evidence of disparate impact to feed this obsession. Data collected by the Federal Government reveal that in 1992, while 16 per cent of white applicants for mortgage loans were rejected, 36 per cent of black applicants were rejected.

snip
And the banks were supposed to do what, exactly?

Real US unemployment rate at 16 pct: Fed official

Quote:
The real US unemployment rate is 16 percent if persons who have dropped out of the labor pool and those working less than they would like are counted, a Federal Reserve official said Wednesday. "If one considers the people who would like a job but have stopped looking -- so-called discouraged workers -- and those who are working fewer hours than they want, the unemployment rate would move from the official 9.4 percent to 16 percent, said Atlanta Fed chief Dennis Lockhart.
