I can't believe anyone would think a debate should take priority over the state of our economy. Every single elected official should hightail their a&&es to D.C. and do their job they were elected to do. Screw committees. Be in on the discussions ! .......................And that don't mean voting present!!
Roll up their sleeves, forgot party affiliations and find a best solution for this financial nightmare. If they don't, it won't matter who the new president is.....we will all feel the ramification of a poor decision.

I can't believe that ring-wingers can't see that it's not an either or situation. It actually is possible to do both.

Go back to civics class. There is nothing to vote on, and there won't be anything to vote on this Friday either. McCain and Obama are not on the appropriate committees and will not be helping craft the bill until it comes out of committee for discussion.

Ok, good. So why doesn't Obama leave whatever hole he's in practicing his big boy answers for the show on Friday, GO to washington, and then come back "for a couple hours" on Friday for the debate?
He would NEVER do it, BECAUSE HE CAN'T DO MORE THAN ONE THING AT ONCE.
This forum needs to be closed. The whole thing. These threads are ridiculous.
But before that happens, let me ask the GOPers something, I thought the RNC passed the following at their convention just a few short weeks ago:
Quote:
Homeownership remains key to creating an opportunity society. We support timely and carefully targeted aid to those hurt by the housing crisis so that affected individuals can have a chance to trade a burdensome mortgage for a manageable loan that reflects their home’s market value. At the same time, government action must not implicitly encourage anyone to borrow more than they can afford to repay. We support energetic federal investigation and, where appropriate, prosecution of criminal wrongdoing in the mortgage industry and investment sector. We do not support government bailouts of private institutions. Government interference in the markets exacerbates problems in the marketplace and causes the free market to take longer to correct itself. We believe in the free market as the best tool to sustained prosperity and opportunity for all. We encourage potential buyers to work in concert with the lending community to educate themselves about the responsibilities of purchasing a home, condo, or land.
So what would you say if Obama suspended his campaign first? Just admit it, you don't care about the country, you only care that your party wins. You don't even care for McCain. You just don't want the Democrats to "win".
Yeah, that's what he's saying TODAY. YESTERDAY they were saying McCain is key. See link in my previous post.
You're misinterpreting what is being said. They don't need McCain there to sit around and wait while the committee hammers out the deal. They are saying that they aren't going to support a deeply unpopular Bush plan if McCain doesn't support it. They'll need him when it comes to a vote, but there won't be anything for him to do until then.
In your link: ""Senior Democrats on the Hill are worried that Sen. McCain will 'demagogue' the bill, continue to voice opposition to it, use it to run against both Wall Street and Congress, as well as to distance himself from the Bush White House. Democrats worry McCain will not only vote against the bill, he will provide cover for other Republicans to do so, leaving Democrats holding the bag for the Bush administration's deeply unpopular proposal."
But wait, McCain never said to postpone the debates ... he just said to suspend the commercial ads. Guess the jokes on all of us posting today!
Bull hockey.
In his statement this morning, McCain said, "I am directing my campaign to work with the Obama campaign and the commission on presidential debates to delay Friday night's debate until we have taken action to address this crisis."
