Is it safe to assume that there is some type of functional hall, university, etc in the greater DC area that could host the debate?
Hey yeah. And I've even heard that there are these new fangled things called airplanes that could get him to Mississippi in a couple of hours... especially since he owns his own.
McCain hasn't shown himself as sharp on the economy so why is his input required?
Do I understand correctly that if McCain is President he won't be able to handle the economy and a crisis over seas at the same time? It is nice to say only focus on one thing at a time - actually, yes, that is what you do. After you focus on that one thing you then shift your focus to the next issue. All this grand standing that is going on is more game playing to keep Palin away from any questions. They would like her to just look good until the election.
Just be clear - this is not a bail out for the taxpayer! The taxpayer will surely pay. This is a bail out for the players. I don't trust any of them to care the least little bit about my financial life.
If McCain thought his presence in D.C. was so important, then why has he been traveling around campaigning all week and only thinks it important that he be there on Friday night???? Coincidence? I don't think so.
If McCain thinks that post-poning the debate makes it look like he cares more about the economy than Obama than he is greatly mistaken. I hope the American people see this for what it is - a cop out to not debate! I hope Obama still attends the debate so he can prove to America that he's the right person for the job.
He should just concede now, retire while he still has some years left, and enjoy that pretty wife of his. Why on earth he wants to be president is beyond me.

When it rains it pours. Perhaps Senator McCain has launched this ploy to save them both.
I think so. Luckily, the Debate Commission isnt having any.
“The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) is moving forward with its plan for the first presidential debate at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss. this Friday, September 26. The plans for this forum have been underway for more than a year and a half. The CPD’s mission is to provide a forum in which the American public has an opportunity to hear the leading candidates for the president of the United States debate the critical issues facing the nation. We believe the public will be well served by having all of the debates go forward as scheduled.” - news, debates.org
All the various public polls out there overwhelmingly say that all the debates should continue as scheduled. Now more than ever we need to hear what these candidates have to say and how they stand on this economic crisis that Bush and his pathetic cronies got us into. Now they are looking to postpone the VP debates too...thats because Caribou Barbie has no clue and this cram course she has taken in economics the past few days hasn't helped.
