Hate crimes are not restricted to physical violence, but could include symbolism/imagery that is meant to intimidate or demean a particular ethnic group (e.g. nooses, a swastika).

After reading "some" of this thread, I was wondering the same thing. I guess it's allright to express hate towards McCain and Sarah Palin, though, huh? Makes me ill, too.
